Nobu Hotel Los Cabos

A Japanese retreat in rugged Baja
VERIFIED LUXURY

Even with the slew of new hotels that have emerged throughout Los Cabos recently, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos has been able to carve out its own corner at the far southeastern edge, about seven miles west of the famous El Arco landmark. The region’s remote location provides a sense of tranquility, while Nobu’s vibrant restaurant and the resort’s overall energy keep things fresh and fun.

The hotel masterfully retains the Nobu traditions of Japanese sensibility and hospitality, while still taking into account the rugged Baja landscape. Nobu’s first Mexico property exudes understated elegance, standing out among the rest with its culinary offerings (including five restaurants, five bars and a Nobu Cafe serving coffee and pastries), a dynamic spa and spectacular views of the sapphire water.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • While the Nobu restaurant is the crown jewel of the resort, Japanese food is certainly not the only option here. Pacific Restaurant offers fine-dining Mexican overlooking the fire pits, Ardea Steakhouse & Sportsbar serves Italian steakhouse fare and The Restaurant starts the day with fresh, organic breakfast. Even ordering poolside snacks as simple as pizza and French fries are elevated here — every outlet at the property churns out top-notch fare.
  • Although the Los Cabos hotel provides 200 guest rooms, careful planning has prevented it from feeling like a mega-resort. Accommodations are threaded throughout four swimming pools. Some units even have direct swim-up access from their own private entries.
  • The spa-like bathrooms feature rain showers and Japanese soaking tubs, all in a soothing palette of dark woods, limestone and river-rock walls.
  • While many hotels offer concierge texting through your own mobile device for things like spa appointments and dinner reservations, the Nobu team’s concierge service goes above and beyond. Staff can help you do anything from track down obscure local artwork to quickly fetch items left behind in a room.
  • The Japanese experience at the Nobu restaurant is a welcome break from typical Mexican cuisine, while still sourcing menu items locally. Plus, if you’re not a fan of tequila, you’ll appreciate the expansive selection of sake.

Things to Know

  • The luxury hotel is roughly 50 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport. Even just getting in and out through its gates can add 15 minutes to your journey. The good news is that nearly everything you need is directly on property: pools, coastline, a spa, five dining and drinking outlets and an array of outdoor activities.
  • While the coastline is scenic and peaceful, like many of the resorts in the area, Nobu Los Cabos does not have a swimmable beach.
  • The 13,691-square-foot spa provides 13 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy garden and a service menu consisting of blissful, Asian-inspired therapies that incorporate Natura Bissé’s famed product line.

The Rooms

  • Well-appointed and comfortable, each room features elegant, Japanese-influenced décor, which, surprisingly, feels right at home in Mexico. The darker woods and neutral stones blend in well with the natural landscape.
  • Rooms start at 514 square feet and come with 65-inch televisions, onsen soaking tubs and balconies. Many of the suites also feature contemporary, private plunge pools.
  • At the most premium level, the two-bedroom Nobu Suite includes a stone fireplace, an appliance-filled chef’s kitchen, dining space and a game area across 2,628 square feet.

Nearby Attractions

  • Todos Santos, the bohemian artist community with the original Hotel California, is an hour north of the resort and great for a day trip of shopping and exploring.
  • Head to the Cabo San Lucas Marina area to embark on tours for snorkeling, whale watching (seasonally) and admiring the scenic natural monument “The Arch.”
  • If you are a golfer, play a round at the Rancho San Lucas complex, which sits 15 minutes away from the hotel.
