Viceroy Los Cabos

Contemporary architecture in the tranquility of Cabo
VERIFIED LUXURY

Looking at pictures of Viceroy Los Cabos, it’s difficult to imagine that this stunning piece of architecture actually exists. However, the expansive reflecting pools, nest-like canopies and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass are even more spectacular in person.

The property’s location in San Jose del Cabo means it’s just 20 minutes from the airport, and less than 15 minutes from coveted Cabo-area attractions like Flora Farms and the art galleries in the heart of San Jose.

But proximity is only one of the property’s positive attributes. Fans of contemporary architecture will appreciate the clean lines of Mexico City-based Miguel Angel Aragonés’ work, who created one of the only properties in the region free of the expected palapas and artisanal tile.

When you experience the Viceroy, you’ll be charmed by the serenity of the atmosphere, coupled with the creative pop-up shops and activations, not to mention unique amenities like the gym created by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak and the on-site screening room.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The hip, young vibe here is a pleasant break from the family-centric and romantic resorts elsewhere in Los Cabos. Perfect for friends, celebratory excursions or even solo travel, the property won’t leave you feeling like the odd man out should you visit with your best friend instead of a significant other.
  • Whether you’re doing the galloping yourself or just observing, the horseback rides along the beach in front of the resort are a thing of beauty.
  • Four restaurants provide a range of options, but all of them focus on organic ingredients. Plan to arrive just before sunset for dinner at Cielomar Rooftop, the restaurant and lounge featuring locally caught seafood.
  • The avant-garde design instantly catches your eye, from the suites that appear to float to the vast swimming pools that cover the grounds.
  • In 2020, the property launched the Art Series at Viceroy, bringing local artists to the property on the first Friday of each month for an art show.

Things to Know
  • Most of the beaches in Cabo are not swimmable. The Viceroy — as well as many other top resorts in the area — is on one of them, so don’t expect to catch any waves here.
  • If you’re looking for nightlife, nearly all of that is on the other side of town, about 35 minutes away, in Cabo San Lucas.
  • Bring your workout clothes. The expansive gym feels more like a playground for adults than it does a chore.
  • Check the resort’s programming before you go. Shopping pop-ups, theater screenings and culinary activations are constantly being offered.

The Rooms

  • In addition to 192 guest rooms, Viceroy Los Cabos provides 50 residences that are available for rent. Some of them are equipped with private rooftop pools and outdoor kitchens.
  • The property debuted two-, three- and five-bedroom residences for larger groups and gatherings in 2019. The villas are just steps from the ocean and are designed with the aesthetic of a Miami luxury condo.
  • Still, the standard guest rooms hardly disappoint. They offer a calming mix of white on white, with accents of natural stones and light woods. Suites, on the other hand, have oversize soaking tubs. But thankfully, all rooms come with private patio

The Look
  • The verticality of the resort makes it easier to get around, especially for groups who might normally be spread out.
  • Water is the key design element on Viceroy Los Cabos, with buildings meant to appear as if they’re floating.
  • Five pools meander throughout the property, including an oceanfront infinity pool surrounded by custom-made teak lounges.
