ME Malta Hotel’s 20-story tower from acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid rises from the former Mercury House, a limestone-vaulted base that once served as a British telecommunications center. The contrast continues upstairs, with Turkish design studio Autoban combining limestone-inspired neutrals and Mediterranean blues with contemporary art, sculptural details and expansive glass walls. Higher floors frame views across St. Julian’s Bay, as well as close-up perspectives of the neighboring Mercury Tower, Malta’s tallest building.

Leisure spaces include two rooftop pools and a subterranean spa, while restaurants and bars are spread across several floors. As part of the larger Mercury development, ME Malta is also connected to a piazza, a shopping mall and entertainment venues. The result is a distinctly contemporary hotel that connects St. Julian’s past with its increasingly high-rise, design-focused present.

Our Inspector's Highlights

Radio Rooftop on the 20th floor is the place for sunset drinks, with sweeping views over St. Julian’s and the Mediterranean paired with DJ sets and other live entertainment.
Dee Spas occupies the basement of the former Mercury House, retaining the historic building’s limestone vaults and original floor tiles. Its indoor pool winds through a cave-like space illuminated with images of Malta’s coastline.
Mornings at Luciano are a particular highlight. The fifth-floor restaurant serves a broad breakfast buffet that includes Maltese specialties such as pastizzi (savory pastries) and ġbejna cheese alongside fresh fruit, pastries, smoked salmon and a vegan selection. For lunch and dinner, the menu veers full Italian, with a three-tiered platter of antipasti, creamy black truffle spaghetti with pecorino romano and classic tiramisu.
The eighth-floor deck has two outdoor pools and Cabana Club, which serves lunch and drinks. It’s a nice spot to while away the afternoon and soak up the sun.
The Malta hotel connects directly to the Mercury development’s shopping mall, where brands, including Calvin Klein and Breitling, have storefronts, making it easy to browse designer offerings without leaving the complex.

The Rooms

The 174 rooms combine cream and limestone-inspired tones with blue accents, textured fabrics and Maltese crafts. Bathrooms feature generous walk-in showers and amenities like a hair straightener and C.O. Bigelow toiletries.
If you want a view of the water, request accommodations on the ninth floor or above. Rooms on floors three through 18 have glass-walled balconies, with higher elevations providing broader vistas across St. Julian’s Bay.
About 732 square feet, Extra ME+ Suites add a separate living area. Water-view versions come with a balcony, and some have a private sauna.
Beyond ME+ suites run to roughly 1,033 square feet, with sea vistas and substantially more room to spread out. Some configurations include a sauna.
The 19th-floor Presidential Suite measures about 2,153 square feet with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a soaking tub with a view and a reserved poolside Bali bed. Other perks include airport transfers and access to the airport’s VIP departure lounge.
