Grand Hyatt Melbourne

The star of Melbourne's 'Paris End'
VERIFIED LUXURY
Widely regarded Melbourne’s original luxury hotel, Grand Hyatt Melbourne has been an Australian icon for 30 years. Don’t let the hotel’s heritage fool you, though — while it’s packed with timeless charm and Old World attention to detail, the Grand Hyatt is modern in both its facilities and its design.

The hotel’s Collins Street entrance is inconspicuously tucked between designer boutiques and is flanked by hidden laneway bars, enticing you with the promise of signature cocktails and fine local produce.

The retention of the hotel’s staff speaks volumes to us about the hotel itself. A repeat visit will always include a familiar face, with seven staff members celebrating their 30th year of service on the hotel’s 30th anniversary.
While luxury coats every surface of this hotel, its people are its heart.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Don’t miss High Tea in Style, Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s collaboration with Australian artist Cristina Re. The designer created a signature collection of vintage-inspired fine china, all trimmed in 24-karat gold, to elevate the already luxurious high tea experience. Pastel cupcakes, delicate macarons and artfully handcrafted petit fours, all made by head pastry chef Marius Cauvin, are on offer.

• City Club is the largest hotel gym in the Asia-Pacific region, boasting a rooftop tennis court, indoor swimming pool, golf nets, a basketball court and private spa treatment rooms. It’s worth a visit for the sheer scale, let alone the state-of-the-art facilities.

• The Melbourne hotel is home to 16 event and meeting spaces to accommodate private seminars for 10, conferences for up to 700 and cocktail-style receptions for 1,500 guests. It’s a popular place to host events.
Things to Know
• The hotel is on Collins Street’s eastern end, which is known by locals as the “Paris End,” due to its heritage buildings and the international designer boutiques that line the road. Chanel and Louis Vuitton are close by.

• The Grand Hyatt itself is home to several shops, including Bulgari, Paspaley Pearls and Emporio Armani.

• If you’re a Grand Club or suite guest, you’ll be granted exclusive access to the 31st-floor Grand Club Lounge, which offers panoramic, uninterrupted views of the skyline. Visit the lounge for a complimentary continental breakfast, as well as for evening drinks and canapés.
The Rooms
• Sitting atop the hotel’s 33rd floor, the Premier Suite has been recently revamped to span nearly 1,960 square feet. It features floor-to-ceiling city skyline vistas from the comfort of an oversized king bed, along with two living spaces and a 72-inch television with a Bose surround sound system.

• While every room boasts Egyptian linens, June Jacobs amenities and views of either the Yarra River or the skyline, the real stars are the stunning marble bathrooms.

• The best bathroom is found in the Diplomatic Suite, which features two walk-in showers and a sunken tub overlooking the Yarra River. Not luxurious enough for you? Try the Premier Suite for its 270-square-foot jet-black marble bathroom complete with a sunken spa, walk-in shower, rain shower and water body jets.

The Restaurants

• Collins Kitchen is open all day long, however, a morning visit is a necessity. With an emphasis on local produce, the expansive buffet carries seasonal fruits, meats ranging from honey-glazed ham to salami, bakery treats, an egg station, char siu bao (pork buns) and pork and prawn dim sum.

• Ru-Co can be found (as all good Melbourne bars are) tucked within a city laneway beside the luxury hotel. It features an extensive list of signature cocktails, craft beers and single-malt whiskeys.

• Peruse Ru-Co’s wine list, which is drawn from the hotel’s 2,700-bottle cellar.

• Stay a while at Ru-Co to graze on small plates of Pacific oysters with yuzu vinaigrette and lime, Victorian burrata, pickled and grilled zucchini, and pasture-fed beef tartare.
