Las Alcobas, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Mexico City

Mexico City's stylish boutique find
VERIFIED LUXURY
While Las Alcobas, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Mexico City is located in the posh Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City, a prime location for shopping and dining, the hotel has its own star attractions, including two sublime restaurants and an intimate spa.

Previously an estate, the Forbes Travel Guide Four Star boutique hotel exudes the warmth of a home while possessing the modern luxuries and impeccable service of a high-end chain hotel. The property name, meaning “alcoves,” is a nod toward the philosophy of the structure, which is to create a space of familiarity and serenity in a frenetic city.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The attention to detail and combination of colors and textures — suede furnishings, ruched drapery, wrought-iron doors and leather walls — create a cohesive environment that feels more like a chic home than an impersonal hotel.
  • The 35 guest rooms do not lack for high-tech comforts — they are outfitted with Bose speakers, touch-screen panel controls and 42-inch flat-screen televisions.
  • The Pasaje Penthouse is a 1,600-square-foot palace fit for a king. A full living room, a dining area and a butler kitchen certainly don’t hurt that declaration. And the breathtaking terrace allows you to fully survey a city that rarely sleeps.
  • The hotel offers complimentary in-room minibars with sweet Mexican snacks and chocolates presented in hand-painted boxes at turndown.
  • Las Alcobas’ signature restaurant is Anatol, which is helmed by chef Justin Ermini. A Culinary Institute of America graduate who sharpened his skills at Five-Star Jean Georges and other esteemed eateries, Ermini has cooked up the perfect place for a bite any time of day.
Things to Know
  • The design focal point of the hotel is a grand spiral staircase that winds from floor to floor, weaving a mixed-tone wood railing throughout Las Alcobas.
  • The hotel’s enviable location on Presidente Masaryk Avenue enables you to have quick and easy access to an array of upscale boutiques (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Cartier) independent cafés and trendy nightclubs that permeate Polanco.
  • Even with such a notable address, Las Alcobas maintains a low-key (but luxurious) ambience with a discreet corner entrance that allows for the ultimate privacy of its guests.
The Rooms
  • The units’ custom rosewood furnishings are decidedly sleek and contemporary but a few Mexican accents give life and a sense of place to the rooms.
  • Bathrooms are marble delights, with rain showers, Aurora bath products and Manos que Curan handmade soaps and terrycloth bathrobes. They’re also equipped with soaking tubs with aromatherapy and chromotherapy capabilities.
  • If the serene bathroom leaves you wanting some more serious pampering, head to the intimate two-treatment-room spa for indigenous treatments that use oils infused with Mexican ingredients like coffee and cocoa butter.
The Restaurants
  • Anatol takes on a life of its own in the evening. It’s then when the kitchen really struts its ability to create locally adored dishes that have a sprig of Italian influence. Taste the gastro genius in black bean soup dabbed with smoked foie gras and brioche crumbs or a locally caught bass that’s paired with wild rice, almonds and caper-lemon brown butter.
  • For a taste of Mexican fine dining, book a table at Dulce Patria. Here, chef Martha Ortiz serves up traditional plates with a modern spin in the buzzy, high-end eatery, also a favorite among locals.
