Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa

A romantic seaside getaway
VERIFIED LUXURY

Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa sits in seclusion on its own private bay amid a dramatic landscape of cliffs and white sand beaches, offering a romantic escape and an authentic taste of Arabian hospitality in one of the most picturesque areas of Oman.

The moment you enter the ornate Moorish-style lobby, you will be met with a striking view of theAlhambra-inspired central courtyard and the sea beyond. The sweet smell of burning frankincense adds a distinctly Omani aroma to the winding, gilded corridors, while artwork, artifacts and traditional dress worn by the employees enhance the distinctly local feel of the palatial property.

Here, you can customize your experience to be as relaxing or active as you desire with an extensive array of options, including sailing, scuba diving and spa treatments. Though swimming in the placid sea and luxuriating on the beach with attentive waiters on hand to provide refreshments, towels and umbrella adjustments remain the most compelling reasons to stay at this indulgent oasis.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The aptly named Al Husn — which means “castle” in Arabic — delivers the complete luxury Arabian experience, from the welcome mocktails and Omani dates and coffee, to the dramatic design and effortless service.
  • The property is built on a private bay with white sand beaches fronting water that is calm, warm and so saline that you practically float. It is a swimmer’s paradise.
  • The breakfast buffet is lavish, with cold seafood towers, hot stations, cheese boards and a made-to-order menu of hearty morning entrées. Partake in the alfresco spread on the expansive terrace overlooking the beach.
  • The Shangri-La’s cliffside location means that dramatic ocean vistas can be seen from almost every room, dining outlet and common area of the Muscat property.
  • The luxury hotel features its own private beach and infinity pool, but you also have access to a number of amenities and activities at the adjacent Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, from water sports to art galleries, nightclubs and camel rides.

Things to Know

  • A complimentary shuttle will take you to historic Old Muscat and the ancient Mutrah Souq (market), which are about 20 minutes down the coast from the property.
  • For more far-flung excursions, there are onsite Oman guides who can arrange private museum and mosque tours, desert adventures and more.
  • Shangri-La Al Husn gives off a romantic ambiance — it’s an enclave for couples. Only people 16 and older are allowed to stay at the property. Those with little ones should try the family-friendly Al Waha hotel, located at sister property Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah.
  • Though the property is a 45-minute drive from the airport, once you arrive, the array of amenities, dining venues, spas, shopping options, activities and excursions ensure that you can happily spend your entire trip exploring the resort on foot.

The Rooms

  • This exclusive Muscat hotel offers 180 rooms and suites, all of which have sea or clifftop infinity pool views.
  • All rooms include butler service (upon request), afternoon tea, cocktail hour and large balconies that beg for an alfresco breakfast.
  • Luxurious touches abound, from the L’Occitane toiletries to the fresh fruit and flowers that are delivered to your room each day.
  • The suites are massive at more than 1,000 square feet and feature soaking tubs with ocean panoramas.

The Restaurants

  • The resort’s private stretch of sand is home to the casual Mahhara Beach Bar and Restaurant. The café serves light fare and grilled, locally caught fish, which can be enjoyed at a scattering of tables or served directly to your lounger along with specialty cocktails and mocktails.
  • Shahrazad is the hotel’s signature restaurant, a romantic candle-lit venue serving elevated Arabian cuisine along with Lebanese and global wines. The live Arabian music adds to the amorous mood.
  • For elegant white tablecloth dining overlooking the ocean, book a reservation at the nautically themed Sultanah. Inspired by the luxury cruise liner of the same name, the venue specializes in modern Spanish cuisine.
  • You’ll also get access to 15 additional restaurants and lounges at the adjacent Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah. Many of these eateries are arranged around a stunning courtyard facing the sea where you can enjoy live music, shisha, Arabic coffee, small bites and cocktails in the evenings.
