Before 2019, it would have been hard to imagine that the area now known as Hudson Yards on Manhattan’s far west side would be a magnet for trendsetting urbanites. But this far-flung Midtown West spot has emerged not only as one of the largest mixed-use mega neighborhoods in the world, but a destination all its own thanks to the opening of Equinox Hotel New York.

This hybrid of lifestyle meets luxury is the first of many hotels planned for the Equinox fitness brand, but if you’re expecting treadmills and barbells in your room, think again.

The ethos here skews more posh than sporty, including a sleek, modern interior designed by renowned architect David Rockwell; staff clad in bespoke Lady & Butler uniforms from celebrity stylist Kate Young; and, of course, the state-of-the-art gym, a sanctuary of fitness replete with saltwater lap and plunge pools.

Ushering in the next generation of high-energy luxury to New York’s ever-evolving metropolis, Equinox raises the bar high and then runs laps around it for fun.

Our Inspector's Highlights

Imagined by acclaimed interior designer Joyce Wang, the luxury hotel’s 60,000-square-foot gym and spa is the largest health club in the Equinox portfolio. Its facilities and classes are free for hotel guests (with the exclusion of SoulCycle). For something unique, sign up for one of the “Vessel Up” workouts, a cardio-forward session that takes you to the top of the 150-foot-tall Vessel structure within Hudson Yards.
There are two health-conscious dining venues at Equinox Hotel New York. Renowned restaurateur Stephen Starr’s Electric Lemon serves as the upscale all-day dining concept on the 24th floor and a more casual café and bar called Broken Coconut by nightlife impresario Scott Sartiano is by the outdoor pool area.
From a three-person cryotherapy chamber and CBD massages to an infrared sauna and vitamin IV drips, The Spa by Equinox Hotels is a hub of wellness befitting the brand’s reputation. The real pièce de résistance, though, is the wave table, a 30-minute immersive sound and harmonic resonance therapy that targets restfulness and helps you achieve three hours of sleep in half an hour.
Exclusive in-room amenities include AM and PM shower gels by Grown Alchemist that incorporate herbs grown locally on the High Line. RoomBar is the minibar, carrying everything from superfoods and artisanal snacks to magnesium cream and valerian root sleep drops.
In warmer months, don’t miss the hotel’s beautiful pool and sundeck adorned with a striking Jaume Plensa sculpture. Soak up fantastic views of the Vessel and Hudson River from a private cabana replete with a mini-fridge, lounge chairs and bar and food service from Broken Coconut.

Things to Know

Set along 11th Avenue and 33rd Street are two nearly identical entrances to the hotel on the Hudson Yards-facing side of the building. The entrance to the left-hand side will take you directly to the 25th-floor lobby, while the one to the right will lead you to the gym — if you access the right-hand side, you’ll have to switch elevators to get to the lobby.
As the area around Hudson Yards hotel continues to expand, east-facing rooms will look out onto active construction. Rooms have been built to withstand outside noise, so sound should not be an issue, however western-facing river-view rooms will prove more aesthetically pleasing.
In the closet, you’ll find yoga mats, blocks, mini bands and a foam roller available for use.

The Rooms

The 212 rooms (more than half of which afford sweeping views over the Hudson River) are not an afterthought at the wellness hotel. Temperature-regulating mattresses made out of all-natural fibers, medical-grade filtered air and a blackout window system can be controlled by the bedside iPad.
With a clear divide between the bedroom, bathroom and changing area, rooms were designed with the help of sleep experts to embody three main principals: dark, quiet and cool. With an emphasis on providing a space to get restorative rest, the New York City hotel provides a dedicated Equinox sleep coach to help you develop healthier sleep patterns.
The shower is one of the most impressive features in the marble bathroom, with three heads offering rain, handheld and stationary options.
Rooms are equipped with Apple TV, allowing you to login to your account and stream whatever you want.
An iPad controls every function of your stay, including the temperature, room service and fitness class registration. You can even order gratis loaner workout gear in case you forgot yours at home.

Equinox Hotel is a destination within the emerging Hudson Yards neighborhood. Don’t miss the chance to check out the seven-story, 750,000-square-foot shopping mall with everything from designer brands like Chanel and Cartier as well as the city’s first Neiman Marcus.
Popular local park the High Line allows easy access points from Hudson Yards for a stroll along one of the longest urban green spaces in the country.
The Shed is New York’s first arts center to commission work across the performing, visual and pop culture genres. It’s a great place to check out new exhibits and works by artists from around the world.
Nearby culinary hot spots include Thomas Keller’s TAK Room, Mercado Little Spain food hall by José Andrés and Milos Wine Bar, which pours around 100 Greek varietals in a convivial setting.
