Sofitel New York

Parisian flavor near Fifth Avenue
VERIFIED LUXURY
Located in Midtown Manhattan, Sofitel New York sits at the center of the city’s pulse. Just a few blocks away from Bryant Park, Fifth Avenue, Times Square and the Theater District, this French-influenced hotel is a perfect spot for those visiting the Big Apple for leisure or business.

The Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel features an Art Deco design with a large lobby outfitted with plenty of plush seating in front of the fireplace. You’ll also find framed black-and-white photos of iconic sights in New York and Paris decorating the walls.

Luxurious guest rooms are also decorated with an Art Deco style and feature feather bedding, glass-enclosed rain showers and deep-soaking tubs. Upgrading to a suite means separate living areas and bedrooms, as well as terracing overlooking the city.

With many staff members speaking with French accents, it can be very easy to forget whether you’re in New York or Paris.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Situated in the center of Midtown, the hotel is in the perfect location as it’s near the Theater District, Times Square, shopping on Fifth Avenue, Bryant Park and much more.
  • Although the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel sits in a loud, bustling area, it’s refreshingly quiet inside. It’s nice to come back to the hotel in the evening and enjoy a peaceful lobby area and silent guest room corridors after a long day in the boisterous city.
  • The hotel offers sophistication in its design and presentation. The staff is professional and refined as is the lobby, which features an Art Deco design and French flair.
  • The Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel's restaurant and bar are reminiscent of a Parisian bistro and offer delicious French-inspired fare as well.
Things to Know
  • We love a good pastry basket filled with chocolate croissants for breakfast or a croque monsieur for lunch. You’ll find plenty of French favorites at the hotel’s restaurant, Gaby.
  • Located on the lower level, the hotel’s fitness center offers all the cardio and weight training machines you’ll need to get in a good workout.
  • The marble bathrooms here feature walk-in showers with rain showerheads and separate deep-soaking tubs so you can relax after a long day of sightseeing on your feet.
  • The guestrooms’ plush feather SoBeds with feather pillows and feather duvets are so soft; you’re sure to get a good night’s rest.
The Rooms
  • The guest rooms at Sofitel New York are luxurious, spacious and comfortable. For the bustling city of New York, sometimes space is hard to come by, but not here. Even the standard guest rooms are huge and come with large bathrooms that have separate showers and tubs.
  • The Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel is also on the quiet side, so you’ll be certain to get a good night’s rest here, especially on the property’s signature SoBed, with feather-topped mattresses, feather pillows and feather duvets.
  • There are classic and superior guest rooms, which are all 350 square feet and offer queen beds or two singles with the only difference being that the superior rooms are on a higher floor offering better views of the city.
  • The luxury rooms are on the highest floors and offer 400 square feet of space and king-sized beds. All guest rooms have Bose clock radios, flat-screen TVs, two phone lines, and marble bathrooms with separate showers and tubs.
  • Then, there are 52 suites — Junior, Prestige and Imperial — with great city vistas as they are located on the higher floors and offer much more space than the regular rooms, with separate bedrooms and living rooms, and the larger suites also feature roomy terraces with plenty of plush seating so you can take in the city scapes from above while relaxing outside.
The Restaurants
  • Get your French food fix at Gaby Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a sophisticated, Parisian-like atmosphere.
  • The Croque Monsieur is the sandwich to get. Made with delicious Parisian ham, Gruyère cheese and béchamel sauce, it is served on thick brioche and comes with a side of crispy fries and mixed greens.
  • If you’re ordering room service for breakfast at the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel, we suggest you order Italian scrambled eggs. They come with sautéed tomatoes and are served with fingerling potatoes alongside a bakery basket of warm croissants.
  • Head to the bar at Gaby and order a drink from the “His” and “Her” cocktail creation lists. You’ll find beverages such as the Dark & Stormy and the Brazilian Hemingway for him alongside a White Grapefruit Cosmopolitan and a Moscow Mule for her.
