The Mark

A bold Manhattan beauty
VERIFIED LUXURY
Boasting a lobby with bold black-and-white marble floors and plush velvet settees, plus guest rooms designed in a calming neutral color palette with dark wood trim and textured fabric wallpaper with crown molding, The Mark is one of New York’s chicest retreats, having been decorated top-to-bottom by French designer Jacques Grange.

In the heart of the Upper East Side and steps from Madison Avenue shopping and museums like The Whitney, the hotel offers an ideal base for discovering Uptown Manhattan and displays a unique, boutique vibe, perfect for the fashion-forward set or those who shun larger chains.

Yet there’s plenty to explore in the hotel itself, including dining on contemporary American cuisine at The Mark Restaurant, helmed by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, booking a hair appointment at the esteemed Frédéric Fekkai salon, or indulging in a bit of bubbly at the ’60s-inspired Mark Bar, outfitted with cow print couches and twinkling lights.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • At The Mark, you’re just minutes from the best of Madison Avenue’s shopping, Central Park’s jogging paths and bike routes and the city’s best collections of art at Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
  • The Mark’s interiors — both in the guest rooms and in the lobby areas — blend of classic elegance with modern art to impeccably stylish results.
  • The hotel’s concierges are well-informed about New York’s top restaurants and boutiques, and will happily assist you with whatever you need, be it a personal shopper or dinner reservation.
  • Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s restaurant, located on the ground floor of the luxury New York hotel, offers seasonal American cuisine with the occasional Asian influence.
  • We love the spacious Art Deco-style, black-and-white marble bathrooms accented with pale green cabinetry at The Mark, especially the towel warmers.
Things to Know
  • The gym at The Mark is staffed by friendly attendants; they’ll help tailor your workout or stretch you out after a run on the treadmill.
  • If you have a dog, the luxury hotel sets up a little pet area in your room complete with a plush bed for your pooch, food and water bowls and treats.
  • There is neither a pool nor sauna facilities at the The Mark. However, the concierge will happily arrange spa visits, and the hotel does boast a salon from one of New York's top stylists, Frédéric Fekkai, with services from haircuts to makeup application.
  • The hotel is delightfully situated near some of the city's top attractions. Museum Mile (The Guggenheim, The Met), Central Park and Madison Avenue shopping isn't far from your room.
The Rooms
  • Guest rooms at The Mark are designed by Jacques Grange and are a calming blend of classic and Art Deco design accented with modern art.
  • Rooms at this hotel have been fashioned with a cream color palette, featuring pale cabinetry with dark wood trim throughout, plus lighter-colored wood desks and side tables.
  • Textured fabric wallpaper in hues of creamy tan, pear-green drapes, and attractive crown molding create an ambiance of classic elegance reflective of the hotel’s Upper East Side neighborhood.
  • All bathrooms come equipped with double sinks, towel warmers and in-mirror television consoles, while tub and shower fixtures are accented with stylish nickel fixtures from Lefroy Brooks.
The Restaurants
  • Helmed by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges remains the key dining spot in The Mark, open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.
  • Choose to sit in the casual front lounge area, where the bar is, or go a little more upscale in the main room, where the tables get clothed and the booths are dressed in velvet.
  • Either way, both spots offer fine-dining service and the same market-driven, seasonal food with French flair. Think crispy octopus with fennel herb salad, parmesan crusted chicken with artichokes or grilled black sea bass with Cerignola olives.
  • You can also get anything off the menu delivered to your room at the hotel, or, for an informal bite during the day, head to the Mark Bar, located right in front of the restaurant.
