The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York

An opulent Central Park hotel
VERIFIED LUXURY
The Pierre, a New York classic, continues to impress after a long, glamorous history. The 1930s Georgian-style building is a mix of old and new: The first floor accommodates a stylish lounge, Two E Bar, which serves afternoon tea by day, classic cocktails until midnight and light bites with both.

Gorgeous hand-painted murals from the hotel’s twentieth-century beginnings are still laced throughout the hotel (even in the fitness center), now sharing space with Indian artwork, some of which hails from the Taj flagship in Mumbai.

Guestrooms include spacious bathrooms (with separate tub and shower) and retain the same elegant, traditional décor that longtime guests have come to expect over the years.

The most important thing that has remained constant throughout the hotel’s varied tenure? Brides still dream of being married inside the ornate Grand Ballroom, which boasts hand-painted silver and gold ceilings and enough space to seat 1,500 guests.

  • The service at the Five-Star hotel is wonderful. The staff addresses you by name often, and you won’t even have to push a button in the elevator, as it is manned 24 hours a day by a friendly worker.
  • Available 24 hours a day, room service is a delicious and luxurious treat. The menu boasts an eclectic array of ethnic options, including many Indian dishes that echo the Taj group’s Indian heritage.

Things to Know
  • If you bring your pet, housekeeping will prepare the room with a cozy dog bed and a selection of toys. There’s even a room service menu for pets, which includes things like Lassy’s Atlantic salmon with haricot verts and aromatic rice.
  • Head over to Two E Bar for an elegant and decadent tea service every afternoon. Munch on treats like ginger scones with Devonshire cream and Meyer lemon curd, mini lemon meringues, fruit tarts and coffee-rum opera cake with steaming pots of English breakfast and Earl Grey.
  • Because of its Indian ownership, there is an Eastern influence subtly incorporated throughout the hotel. For example, the room service menu adds dishes such as Malabar shrimp curry and sweets like gulab jamun (a traditional dumpling dessert).
The Rooms
  • The Five-Star hotel's rooms are filled with traditional furnishings, such as dark wood bedside tables and a wood desk that looks antique.
  • Beds come with a large white leather headboard, oversized blue decorative pillows and a gorgeous silk baby blue and gold throw.
  • Set back with a white wooden ledge, windows look out to the city or Central Park, depending on your room choice.
  • The spacious, beautiful bathrooms at The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York are decked out with luxurious beige Turkish marble. Inside, there’s a marble vanity with a large mirror, a separate deep-soaking tub and a lovely glass-enclosed walk-in shower with a silver rain-shower head and a detachable wand.
The Restaurants
  • Two E is The Pierre's bar and lounge, but its offerings are rather robust; it's where you'll find a coffee bar, afternoon tea and snacks, cocktails and a small-plates menu from executive chef Ashfer Biju that's available until midnight.
  • The New York hotel’s signature restaurant is Perrine, which offers seasonally inspired fare and vintage Pierre classics.
  • Executive chef Ashfer Biju’s simple and elegant dishes are enhanced by vibrant ingredients and harmonious flavor pairings, from expertly prepared meat and seafood entrées to colorfully composed vegetable dishes.
  • The cocktail menu features inventive libations while executive pastry chef Michael Mignano’s desserts are a wink to The Pierre’s indulgent personality.
