ESPACIO The Jewel of Waikiki

An ultra-exclusive Waikiki gem
VERIFIED LUXURY

Waikiki has long been an iconic destination, given its surfing hot spots, celebrated beach backdrops and history as a playground for Hawaiian royalty. Tucked in this coveted neighborhood sits ESPACIO The Jewel of Waikiki, an ultra-exclusive, residential-style boutique hotel with only nine suites for visitors to make the best of Waikiki’s city and beach life while ensconced in meticulously curated luxury.

You won't just get all the comforts of home, but unrivaled privacy of an entire floor to yourself, along with an expansive oceanfront balcony. Enter the suite through a discreet elevator, and an always-at-the-ready butler who arrives through a separate service elevator.

The suites come with two or three bedrooms and offer impeccable contemporary design and touches of cross-world motifs that include chandeliers with Moroccan metalwork and hand-knit Persian carpets. The fully equipped chef's kitchens feature Italian marble countertops and all the latest appliances. The suites’ panoramic and spacious ocean-view balconies have their own Jacuzzis and daybeds, while bathrooms come with a deep-soaking tub and separate elegant shower. Additional amenities include a daily continental breakfast, a sauna, smart TVs, twice-daily housekeeping and complimentary in-suite shopping by Neiman Marcus.

The staff is well honed in the art of omotenashi — a Japanese term that means anticipating a guest’s every wish — which may curb your desire to leave your floor, but there’s much more in ESPACIO’s public spaces, including a rooftop sundeck with a large Jacuzzi, infinity pool, bar service, an epic view of Waikiki Beach and a fire pit; a spa offering locally inspired treatments; and Mugen, a fine-dining destination that's a must-visit among those in the know.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The reason to stay at this intimate boutique hotel is the secluded, extravagant suites. Measuring 2,250 square feet, these feel more like residences with an almost endless list of amenities: the full kitchen comes with Thermador and Miele appliances and a wine cellar; the dining room features a stunning colorful stone table from Carrara, Italy; there are en-suite washers and dryers; and bathrooms have Dyson hair dryers, Bulgari toiletries and Toto electronic toilets.
  • The three-bedroom Penthouse Suite is literally and metaphorically above the rest, providing the area’s best view of the Pacific from its floor-to-ceiling windows and veranda, along with the long list of amenities available to the eight other suites.
  • Seek out a reservation at Mugen. The tasting-menu-only restaurant serves contemporary global dishes with local produce, much of which is grown exclusively for Mugen. Examples of enticing dishes include Sasanian Osetra caviar with mochi blini, vanilla bean panna cotta, cured yolk and Itoyori with Tokyo turnip, sunchoke puree, funghi and Benton Farms dashi.

  • ESPACIO Spa has just two calming treatment rooms specifically to keep guest interactions private. Under the starry-filled ceiling enjoy Hawaiian treatments, such as the Hawaiian Violet Clay Massage, which mixes in lavender, pine, lemon cypress, ylang-ylang and other essential oils for an ultimate forget-about-your-cares relaxation experience.
  • The Oahu hotel is right in the thick of where you want to be in Waikiki. Directly across from the beach, ESPACIO is on Kalakaua Avenue, a main thoroughfare that cuts through the heart of the city, making it easy to get to area beaches and other attractions.

Things to Know

  • Accommodations come with roundtrip luxury car airport transportation waiting upon your arrival.
  • Give yourself time to linger for a while in Mugen’s intimate space, not least to peruse the 500-bottle collection of wine — which includes coveted pours like Domaine de la Romanée-Conti — or the selection of rare Japanese whiskies.
  • As a guest of the luxury hotel, you get exclusive access to two local cultural institutions, the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Bishop Museum and Iolani Palace. During the White Glove Chamberlains Tour, you go beyond the stanchions during a private and intimate tour led by the Iolani Palace historian. Take a closer look at precious objects in the Throne Room, State Dining Room and King Kalakaua’s Library and learn more about the monarchs. ESPACIO also can arrange classic Polynesian film screenings and advanced copies of literature and art at your request, if available.
