Hotel Paracas, a Luxury Collection Resort, Paracas

A contemporary gateway to nature
VERIFIED LUXURY
Tucked away behind white walls and sliding wood doors, Hotel Paracas, a Luxury Collection Resort, Paracas offers beautifully manicured gardens teeming with purple and fuchsia bougainvillea, palm trees and more flowers and greenery.

Native Peruvian architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia’s clean-lined, two-story white bungalows with bright blue doors are nestled amid the flora. Each of the 120 contemporary, minimalist accommodations features bamboo wall coverings, wood floors, stone bathrooms with Byredo toiletries and inviting furnished terraces (some with plunge pools) or balconies overlooking the gardens or the ocean.

While the waters aren’t swimmable, they are one of the property’s biggest draws. With its private dock, Hotel Paracas acts as a convenient gateway to this region’s renowned nature through boat tours.

There are plenty of other reasons to visit as well: get outside for kayaking, catamaran sailing, paddle surfing and sand biking; kids can stay busy at the Explorer’s Club, with its slate of indoor and outdoor activities; relax at the spa; and partake in Peru’s famed cuisine at four restaurants and bars.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Paracas hotel offers one of the city’s only luxury spas. The nearly 6,000-square-foot Aqu Spa utilizes Andean ingredients like grape. The Grape treatment grinds pulp into a powder and makes it a paste to revitalize your skin’s elasticity and glow. The spa also has a popular thermal circuit that includes a Jacuzzi, pool with hydromassage jets, shower with chromotherapy and more.
  • Guests gravitate to the two heated pools, including a sprawling one for families near the playground. The hot spot is the main infinity-edge pool, which glows a deep blue and is flanked with loungers and cabanas on a wooden deck.
  • Board the property’s 52-foot yacht or join one of the group boat tours departing from the dock to the Ballestas Islands, nicknamed the Peruvian Galapagos for its sea lions, Humboldt penguins and other wildlife. Some tours also venture to Paracas Natural Reserve to visit South America’s only red beach and see up to 200 bird species.
  • Floating at the end of the pier, outdoor restaurant Chalana brings out boatloads of fresh seafood plucked from the surrounding waters. We mean that literally: Chalaca — made of octopus, choclo (a large-kernel corn) and salsa — gets scooped onto shells that rest on ice in a small wooden rowboat.
  • Behind the pool, the bar offers a festive place to gather. Its back wall of windows opens to a vast terrace and lawn overlooking the water where you can catch live music while sipping a drink. We recommend ordering from the Wayra Ñam menu, which takes you on a tour of the area through creative cocktails like the Monja de Paracas. Featuring Vinas de Oro Acholado pisco, vermouth rosso, purple corn syrup, lime juice and sparkling water, it’s an ode to the nearby Candelabro de Paracas, a candelabra geoglyph in the desert.

The Restaurants

  • In the morning, Ballestas Restaurant lays out a tempting buffet with selections like croissants and karamanduka, a Peruvian sweet bread; yogurt parfaits; fresh fruit like passionfruit and pineapple; and cheeses like queso fresco and Brie. Plus, you can add on made-to-order omelets and pancakes.
  • At night, Ballestas delivers a more refined Peruvian dining experience with white-cloth-covered tables and dishes like corn pie with oxtail, mushroom sauce and cheese foam; scallops and octopus fideuà (it’s like paella, but short noodles replace the rice) with crab sauce; and lomo saltado, Peruvian beef stir-fry.
  • For a more casual option, try La Trattoria for lunch or dinner. Choose from Italian favorites like stone-oven pizzas, fresh pastas, creamy risottos and desserts like a crave-worthy tiramisu. If you aren’t in the mood for plates of lasagna or gnocchi frutti di mare, the menu also offers a build-your-own pasta dish where you can choose from noodles like bucatini or rigatoni alongside sauces as varied as amatriciana or puttanesca.
  • Get hands-on with your food in a cooking masterclass at Chalana. You’ll learn how to make authentic ceviche using local fish and ingredients and then savor the seafood and a glass of wine for lunch.
