Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita Mexico

An amenity-laden luxury resort in Punta Mita
VERIFIED LUXURY
On the white sands of Riviera Nayarit’s serpentine coast, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita Mexico stands as a luxurious yet low-key hideaway that sees more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The hotel boasts typical luxe accoutrements but manages to show off (rather than upstage) the pristine Pacific beach and surrounding tropical jungle.

It’s about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, but feels a world away from the bustling cultural hub. Standout attentiveness from the staff is exemplified by the amphibious waiters who wade into the sea to deliver refreshments to thirsty guests playing in the waves. The hotel has a “mi casa, su casa” philosophy with bespoke Four Seasons touches.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Spread across one acre of indoor/outdoor space, Four Seasons Apuane Spa’s standout services integrate a slew of regional details. The wildly popular Punta Mita Massage features tequila-infused products made with traditional ingredients used by the indigenous Huichol people; the Hakali Massage uses heated, de-needled prickly pear cactus paddles to apply pulque (rich in vitamin C) from agave plants.

• While the fitness facility has a complete range of cardiovascular and strength training equipment, you might want to try outdoor tai chi or yoga instead.

• A host of water activities from surfing and scuba diving to snorkeling and swimming are signature adventures here, as is a quick trek to explore the gorgeous caves of the nearby Marieta Islands.

• Golfers will want to tee up at on one of the resort’s two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses, which have ocean views and tropical landscaping.

• Sunbathers will delight in the two pools (one is adults-only), a lazy river and the white-sand beach.
Things to Know
• The spa’s oceanfront cabana has a palapa-thatched roof where you can get a massage while listening to the waves lap against the shore.

• Jaunts to nearby seaside towns and surrounding beaches are worth the time.

• Dotted with great restaurants, upscale boutiques and beautiful people, hip Sayulita offers great surfing and a good dose of reggae chic.

• Sleepy San Pancho is a quieter place to dip in for foodie finds and local crafts shopping, as well as a serene golden beach flanked by the Mexican jungle.

• And the cobblestoned streets of Puerto Vallarta immerse visitors in culture, fine-dining and the region’s storied past.
The Rooms
• Airy and spacious, the 135 casitas, 34 suites and six private residences and villas —  including the $20,000 per night Coral Suite, a 13,300-square-foot, 5-bedroom space designed by renowned architect Diego Villaseno — strike a balance between relaxing retreat and high-tech hideaway.

• In-room refrigerated bars are stocked to taste, while huge bathrooms with deep soaking tubs, speedy computer connections and plush, oversized bath towels offer modern creature comforts.

• Sliding doors and louver panels open to ocean views and bathe spaces in natural light. Hand-embroidered pillows, patterned rugs and textiles in azure tones lend a sense of place to rooms outfitted in deep wood tones and neutral palettes.
The Restaurants
• The fishing village locale proves useful as seafood is served throughout the resort, from the diverse catches of the day dished in the resort’s eateries to fish tacos served poolside.

• Expect fresh, citrusy ceviche at casual, alfresco Nuna Pool Bar, and craveable house-made salsas and classic Mexican fare at Ketsi. Sarandeado, a local seafood specialty, is served beachside at the sleek, modern fish house Bahía by Richard Sandoval.

• At 157-seat Aramara, the resort’s signature dinner-only restaurant, guests dine on Asian contemporary eats like spiced duck and sizzling steak cooked tableside on a hot rock.

• The Punta Mita resort also digs into local culture by pouring tequila — and lots of it. While informal tastings of the 125 regional brands are available at the bars, guests can opt for private tastings arranged by the cultural concierge.
