The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort

A Mexican beachside treasure
VERIFIED LUXURY

Checking into The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort doesn’t really feel like the traditional check-in process. When you arrive at the newly renovated beachfront property, you’ll be offered a margarita before being ushered by the friendly hotel staff to the outdoor area of the Altamira lobby to finish check-in while overlooking the stunning tiered pools that seem to trail off into the Pacific Ocean.

The 120-room resort sits on 22 acres of lush greenery. Although many people visit The St. Regis Punta Mita for its two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses — Pacifico (19 holes) and Bahia (18 holes), others come for beach activities (stand-up paddleboarding and kayak lessons) and luxe accommodations. The recently renovated rooms and suites combine Mexican- and Mediterranean-style architecture with views of the ocean, gardens and the Marietas Islands in the distance.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • There's lots to do here: Start your day off with a little downward-facing dog at the resort’s adults-only Areca pool, one of the resort’s three infinity pools.
  • Sign up for the three-hour Marine Safari, where you’ll meet your tour guide on the beach before jetting off via boat to the Marietas Islands to do some snorkeling and spot the blue-footed booby birds, which can only be seen in western Mexico and on the Galapagos Islands.
  • Head to Altamira Lobby Bar for the evening’s champagne ritual. Observe a bottle of bubbly being sliced open with a saber while the sunset serves as your backdrop.
  • The alfresco Mita Mary Boat Bar & Bistro boasts Pacific Ocean vistas in addition to the resort’s monthly drink. You can also order up margaritas, daiquiris and the Mita Mary (the resort's spin on the Bloody Mary).
  • The spa is a 10,000-square-foot space exuding serenity — go for the indulgent Remède therapies and stay for relaxing and rejuvenating water circuit.
Things to Know
  • Puerto Vallarta, the largest nearby city, is about 50 minutes from Punta Mita. Closer by, local seaside fishing villages offer places to scoop up local craftworks.

  • La Tortuga Children's Club is a great place to drop off the kids during the day for a host of fun activities, including treasure hunts, painting, making pinatas and visiting the children's spa.

  • The best time to visit The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is in August and September (the hottest months of the year). If you’d prefer climes with less humidity and would like to vacation when there’s not so much foot traffic, a visit to the resort starting in mid-October will do the trick.

The Rooms

  • All 120 accommodations share striking Mexican-Mediterranean architecture, and details like soaring ceilings and large terraces with gorgeous views fill each with breeze and light.
  • The hotel’s collection of suites is built in a residential style, allowing guests to never feel as if they’ve left the comfort of their home.
  • St. Regis’ signature butler service will be on hand to assist you from the moment you arrive, helping you as you unpack your suitcase, delivering drinks, food, and anything else you might possibly need.

The Restaurants

  • In the morning, Las Marietas serves smoothies, pastries and Mexican breakfasts. Then for lunch and dinner, the menu changes to grilled seafood and meat alongside Mediterranean fare.
  • Meals at Mita Mary Boat Bar & Bistro come with a healthy amenity of tortilla chips and three dipping sauces (green tomato, red tomato and habanero chili) so be sure to save some room for the main meal. Fill up on freshly caught ceviche, tacos and tostadas.
  • Carolina, named after the mother of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV, serves fine dining inspired by Mexico’s culinary heritage infused with the area’s native flavors.
  • Go to Sea Breeze Restaurant and Bar for international dishes ranging from wood-oven-baked pizzas to grilled fish. It's open for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
