Pendry San Diego

A hip new spot in San Diego
VERIFIED LUXURY
Pendry San Diego is the first of the posh new luxury brand from Montage Hotels & Resorts. The concept aims to deliver the same elevated level of service and hospitality Montage is known for, while blending comfort and luxury with a bustling city experience.

The Pendry brand is centered on creating timelessly beautiful, culturally relevant hotels teeming with fresh, unexpected experiences designed to thrill. With an emphasis on community, creative collaborations and curated programming, Pendry San Diego feels personal and relaxed, much like a classic guesthouse with resort-like amenities.

As for the layout, the property has 317 guest rooms and suites across 12 stories. It also has six dining and entertainment venues, a blissful spa, fitness center and shopping boutique. With its prime location in the heart of the city’s buzzy Gaslamp Quarter, the hotel is primed to thrive.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Sip and stay a while at The Oxford Social Club, a sultry nightlife venue showcasing pop-up art expressions, celebrity-hosted parties, lots of seats to lounge and a stellar cocktail program.
  • Soak up the sun or swim by moonlight at The Pool House. With light bites, craft cocktails and lofty views of Fifth Avenue from its third-floor perch, the open-air, indoor/outdoor rooftop locale is an oasis by day and a lounge by night.
  • The 6,200-square-foot Spa Pendry also has great views and is a prime spot to savor some alone time with soothing land- and sea-inspired massages, facials and scrubs.
  • A sleek fitness facility provides 24-hour access along with dazzling views of San Diego’s downtown. Work up a sweat on the latest equipment or opt for a yoga or meditation class lead by prominent practitioners.
Things to Know
  • Pendry San Diego offers valet parking, but its convenient location makes other modes of travel possible, especially walking. Seaport Village and the USS Midway Museum are less than a mile away, while Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center can be reached on foot in 15 minutes.
  • While reserving a room a month in advance should usually suffice, book well ahead for holidays and city-wide events. For popular annual happenings, such as Comic-Con International: San Diego, secure a room up to a year ahead of time.
  • Stay up to date on hotel happenings by visiting the websites and social media platforms of the property’s individual restaurant and entertainment venues. Wine dinners, tastemaker events, and top-notch performances are often in the works and well worth seeking out.
  • Plan to spend time exploring the extensive San Diego hotel. Cool artwork, living walls, unique social spaces and fun surprises abound.
The Rooms
  • Midcentury-inspired furnishings, oceanic shades of blue and gray, and custom-designed décor make for a stylish but relaxing environment. Art by Tom Adler contributes flair, while free Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions and Nixon Bluetooth speakers keep you connected.
  • Expect a bevy of creature comforts, from the custom bath amenities by Min New York in the marble-clad, Waterworks-equipped bathrooms, to the cozy Lunya bathrobes, nightly turndown service and plush Fili D’Oro bedding.
  • Each posh guest room has 350 square feet of living space, although the rooms vary in layout, bed types and furnishings. A wide range of views fluctuate from lively downtown vistas to vast city skylines or the shimmering bay beyond.
  • The luxury hotel has 36 sumptuous suites starting at 548 square feet; each has premium views and exclusive perks. The Cabana Pool Suite, for example, opens directly to the rooftop pool and a 220-square-foot private cabana.
The Restaurants
  • Helmed by San Diego native, chef Jose “Jojo” Ruiz, the hotel’s swanky signature restaurant, Lionfish, presents local, seasonal and sustainable fare from farm, field and sea. Items from the rotating menu (featuring the trademark nigiri flights) are served in multiple dining zones including a Fifth Avenue patio, lively bar area and a soaring mezzanine.
  • Named after the Nason & Co. Farmer’s Market that once occupied the same site, Nason’s Beer Hall has an array of craft-centric brews, alongside globally inspired comfort cuisine, vintage-style bar games and plenty of flat-screen televisions.
  • Created in partnership with L.A.’s innovative retail concept, Alchemy Works, Provisional Kitchen, Café & Mercantile combines an all-day menu, communal dining and a gourmet grab-and-go with a well-curated marketplace. Peruse high-end housewares, apothecary items and jewelry in the greenhouse-like shopping space as you sip lattes from the espresso bar.
  • Classic, elegant and designed to feel like home, Fifth & Rose provides a luxe little hideaway perfect for lingering over classic cocktails, wine and shared plates. As the Gaslamp hotel’s official lobby bar, it’s a popular watering hole with locals and visitors alike.
