Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island

Family-friendly fun in the sun
VERIFIED LUXURY

The beauty of a private island escape is seclusion, which is exactly what you’ll find at the serene Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island. As the only hotel on the 933-acre property, the luxury haven is for those looking to live the laid-back island lifestyle with the entire family, if only for a few days.

Dotted with beach bungalows and sprawling villas, the Indian Ocean island is immaculate, with nearly nine miles of white sand beach to explore, not to mention off-shore adventures in the crystal-clear waters and miles of explorable trails in the verdant interior. With a private plunge pool in each of the 71 rooms and suites, though, you might find little reason to wander too far.

If you do decide to venture further afield, you’ll find adventures galore, from kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding to snorkeling and even learning at the onsite tortoise conservatory.

No matter how you choose to while away your days, be sure to kick off your evening with a well-deserved nap in one of the Seychelles resort’s hammocks to fully immerse yourself in island living.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island may be a secluded escape, but it’s far from dry. Adventure seekers should head straight to the Castaway Centre to try out ocean fishing, cycling excursions or guided snorkeling. The hotel offers more than 70 island activities.
  • Enjoy a meet-and-greet with some of the locals during a stroll through the Island Conservation Society’s Tortoise Sanctuary. Observe the Aldabra giant tortoise in its natural habitat and learn about the society’s efforts to save the vulnerable species.
  • Don’t miss a rejuvenating service at Circle of Connection Spa. Five open-air treatments suites let sea breezes flow through, while a menu of offerings featuring organic skincare line Terres D’Afrique showcase Africa’s unique botanical bounty.
  • The family-friendly resort is home to nearly nine miles of white sand beach. Take advantage of these scenic stretches with an island picnic, prepared by the resort’s culinary team each morning at The Deli.
  • Adventures await below the surface at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island, too. The resort is home to 15 world-class dive sites, ranging from Technicolor coral reefs to enticing secret passages.

Things to Know

  • Staffers are happy to transport you anywhere you need to go on the island via golf cart, but we highly recommend taking advantage of the gratis bikes parked outside your villa.
  • Start things off with a Morning Awakening ritual at the spa. This 8 a.m. meditation session includes simple mantras and easy stretches to prepare your body and mind for a day of relaxation.
  • Yogis can find their Zen with a roster of weekly classes, ranging from simple meditation to fast-paced Ashtanga sessions led by in-house guru Ganga Sadhuka. Opt for a beachfront sun salutation to make the most of your tropical locale.
  • Forgot sun protection? The resort offers a hat rack in each room, stocked with an array of headgear to help block the island’s strong rays.

The Rooms

  • Ranging from rustic-chic suites to sprawling villas, all 71 accommodations boast private pools, beach access and a secluded garden for extra privacy.
  • Local touches abound, from woven baskets used as mounted artwork to sleek wicker furniture and Seychellene-inspired patterns in the rugs and textiles. Quirkier design elements (hot pink peacock chairs and bold tropical leaf print) make the accommodations extra Instagram-worthy.
  • While all accommodations are spacious (Beach Bungalows are the smallest at 581 to 700 square feet), Presidential Villas are downright palatial. Ranging from three to seven bedrooms (topping out at 7,642 square feet), these sprawling mini-estates boast large private pools with furnished decks and multiple full bathrooms, each with a freestanding stone tub, double vanity and oversized shower, not to mention separate outdoor bathing facilities.
  • If you’d rather be closer to the action, book a Sunset Beach Suite, perched just steps from the Discovery Centre and the luxury resort’s restaurants and facilities. These 1,130-square-foot spaces still offer plenty of privacy with the added bonus of a western view for stellar sunsets every night.

The Restaurants

  • Mediterranean-inspired Claudine is a stylish spot for alfresco all-day dining with pool-facing tables and a plethora of individual overwater pavilions. Seafood-focused fare might include shrimp panzanella salad, risotto primavera with scallops and green peas, or Desroches yellowfin tuna with chickpea zucchini stew.
  • Enjoy toes-in-the-sand dining with a candle-lit ambiance at signature restaurant The Lighthouse. Savor freshly caught selections from the raw bar and sushi menu, or dig into succulent, dry-aged cuts of beef while watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean.
  • Before dinner at The Lighthouse, head up to Lighthouse Lounge for pre-dinner sips paired with ocean breezes. An observation deck outfitted with a telescope provides the perfect spot for stargazing.
  • For grab-and-go bites to take to the beach, stop by The Deli. Get a taste of island flavor with a selection from the restaurant’s PokeViche menu.
