InterContinental Shanghai Expo

A sophsticated stay that's all business
InterContinental Shanghai Expo was built expressly for the 2010 World Expo, but this isn’t a one-trick hotel.

The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Shanghai hotel is coming into its own, with inviting outdoor villas and gardens, a smashing English pub in the form of Liquor Factory and fun art that peppers the public spaces, like the colorful brick-sized beads that decorate the lounge’s piano alcove walls and the lighting fixtures that look like clusters of white stars whose edges melded together in the gray-marble-filled lobby.

But the best amenity, by far, is the hotel’s Four-Star spa. It’s so Zen, you won’t want to leave.
Our Inspector's Highlights
  • You will not want for fine cuisine at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel — Sheng Hui Tang Cantonese restaurant and Basilico Italian eatery are right onsite. Those craving pub food will adore the hidden Liquor Factory, a true English pub that plays football games on satellite TV and keeps a range of spirits stocked behind the bar.
  • Relax and unwind in the hotel’s spa with a facial or massage. The treatments are exceptional, and the relaxation rooms urge you to spend an entire day reading, lounging or enjoying a foot massage.
  • The hotel’s gardens and terraces are the perfect spots to drink a cocktail, marvel at the view or take a catnap in the sun.
  • Those in town on business will thrive in the hotel’s productive working environments and sumptuous lounges.
Things to Know
  • InterContinental Shanghai Expo is not located in downtown Puxi. If you’re looking to be in the middle of all the action in Shanghai, you’ll want to find a more central location.
  • There are a number of restaurants and clubs just a short taxi ride away including the Basilico Restaurant or the Sheng HuiTang Restaurant.
  • The Four-Star hotel offers gorgeous river views of the city — minus all the smog and honking horns of Puxi center.
The Rooms
  • The guest rooms and suites at Four-Star InterContinental Shanghai Expo have floor-to-ceiling windows with views of either the Huangpu River or the lush gardens. Suites have a master bedroom, separate living room and guest bathroom, while all rooms have plush oversize furniture, large closets, storage, huge stately beds and desks for working.
  • The floors are carpeted and thick curtains can be drawn to set the tone for a good night’s sleep. Each room is equipped with an IP phone, DVD/CD/Bose system, DVD and CD library, Bose Wave music system and iPod docking station; appliances include a coffee maker, mini-bar, refrigerator and tea maker.
  • The marble bathrooms in the rooms at Four-Star InterContinental Shanghai Expo have pink and gray granite, rainforest showers and separate toilet cubicles. Standard rooms have nice big bathtubs that come with a pillow, soap rack and waterproof television sets.
  • Suites have romantic stand-alone tubs that overlook the Huangpu River — ideal for couples or one person who would like to stretch out and enjoy a nice, long bath. Double sinks and mirrors give you space while brushing your teeth or grooming for a night out.
Nearby Attractions
  • InterContinental Shanghai Expo was built for the 2010 World Expo, so it is adjacent to the site where that expo was held. Today, the area is being redeveloped into offices, malls and museums; if there’s not a lot to see and do there now, there will be soon.
  • Just next door to the Four-Star hotel are several delicious local favorites like Bubba’s Texas-Style Bar-B-Que & Saloon and New York Pizza.
  • Just an eight-minute drive from Lujiazui district, the city’s financial center and luxury shopping mecca, you will be thrilled to find various dining and entertainment options.
  • If you venture across the Nanpu Bridge, you may want to stop by the fabric market to have suits made and fitness fiends will enjoy running along the scenic Huangpu River.
