Hotel Les Mars

A splash of 18th-century elegance in Wine Country
VERIFIED LUXURY
Imagine the thrill of staying with close friends while on vacation. Now take that thought and add a bucolic wine country setting, a classic chateau-style residence and peerless attention to detail. Located on a side street just off the main strip, Hotel Les Mars boasts 16 rooms, overflowing with antiques from the 17th and 18th century.. Though there are eight types of rooms (two of each), every single one is individually appointed, leaving you with the feeling of staying at a friend’s Mediterranean estate

Once you get past its beautiful limestone façade and step foot inside the lobby, the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel will awe you even more — as if that’s even possible. The hand-carved walnut-panel library offers a tranquil respite after a day of wine tastings, and the delicious complimentary breakfast delivered to your room each morning will make you think twice about ever staying with friends again.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • In the heart of the small wine-centric town of Healdsburg, Calif., Hotel Les Mars is a Sonoma County gem. With its limestone façade and side street location, the hotel can’t help but stand out in the beautiful Wine Country.
  • Imagine spending a weekend with your close friends at a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star resort, then add the picture-perfect landscape of California’s Wine Country; that’s exactly how it is at Hotel Les Mars.
  • The friendly staff welcomes you as if you are stepping into the elegant home of an old friend. Located at 27 North Street, the luxury hotel is just 60 miles from San Francisco, but the moment you step into its antique-filled lobby, you’ll be transported to a countryside estate in Europe.
  • And though you may be thinking that all these antiques and elegant décor are a bit overwhelming, the Four-Star hotel is anything but; it’s as comfortable as a good friend’s home, yet as elegant as a palace.
Things to Know
  • With wine ruling its surroundings, Hotel Les Mars, as you could imagine, has a lot to do with the vineyards.
  • Engulfed in some of Mother Nature’s best work, Sonoma County is beautiful year round, but spring and summer are beautiful times in the Wine Country, as you can grab a bike at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel and pedal along the Russian River.
  • Of course, warmer months also mean farmers markets and pinot noir in the Russian River Valley.
  • But if you really want to get the Sonoma County experience, venture to Hotel Les Mars during the autumn months.
  • As all the neighboring vineyards harvest their grapes, you can stop and see how your favorite wine is produced. With the fall colors dazzling the rolling hills, you can’t help but fall in love with the region.
The Rooms
  • With just 16 rooms spread throughout two floors, the hotel offers unique and elegant details individual to each and every room.
  • There are eight types of guest rooms, with one of each type on both floors.
  • If you’re looking for a standard room at the luxury hotel, opt for the Estate King. Just a note: The rooms on the third floor are more expensive than those on the second.
  • For the ultimate indulgence, book the Grand King at Hotel Les Mars. Whether you opt for the second or third floor location, you’ll be swaddled in luxury in the 550-square-foot room.
The Restaurant
  • Chalkboard Restaurant offers seasonal food in small plate style.
  • Many ingredients featured in the chef's dishes come from the area, some even from the property's gardens.
  • You might find fava beans, asparagus, greens, beets and heirloom tomatoes fresh from the farm on your plate.
  • Don't miss pairing these local plates with local California wines or craft cocktails: We suggest the Monkeypod.
