SingleThread Farms

A haute and homey Healdsburg haven
VERIFIED LUXURY

Located in the quaint Sonoma County town of Healdsburg, SingleThread is perhaps best known for its lauded eatery. But this temple of haute farm-to-table cuisine is also the site of a small inn, the attributes of which make it equally as destination-worthy as the restaurant.

Practicing the same Japanese hospitality philosophy of omotenashi that infuses their dining room, proprietors Kyle and Katina Connaughton have created a warm and welcoming five-room haven that is much more home than it is hotel.

Situated above the restaurant, each room features large picture windows with views of the quaint downtown. Gracefully minimalist furnishings fill the high-ceilinged spaces, and thoughtful extras such as locally made snacks and drinks, luxurious bath amenities and a bountiful breakfast are included.

With SingleThread, the Connaughtons seek to evoke and share the authentic experience of their own wine country lifestyle; a stay at the inn provides a peek into their world, and what a lovely world it is.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • SingleThread Farms Restaurant alone is worth a visit. Reserve your spot for a magical 11-course meal spotlighting ingredients plucked from its own farm.
  • Park the car and forget about it. The Sonoma hotel is centrally located to the best of Healdsburg — wine tasting rooms, boutique shopping and galleries are all within walking distance.
  • Tasty amenities (including a bottle of wine from a rotating list of Sonoma producers) are included. Mini-fridges are stocked with sparkling water and Pliny the Elder beer, kitchenette cabinets are filled with sweets from the SingleThread pastry team, and artisan ice cream is waiting in the freezer.
  • Can coffee really be a highlight? We think so, especially when it’s a rich proprietary blend created specifically for SingleThread by artesian roaster Sparrow Coffee, and drip-brewed in a stylish Ratio coffee maker.
  • An incredible breakfast comes with your stay. A Sonoma-inspired offering might include spiced eggplant hummus, housemade yogurt with granola and farm-harvested honey, and a seasonal vegetable salad.

Things to Know

  • Overnight guests at the boutique hotel have a dinner advantage. Inn stays and corresponding dining reservations can be made up to six months in advance, while SingleThread restaurant bookings on their own can be made only two months ahead.
  • The downstairs dining room is closed on Tuesdays, but on these nights, hotel guests can order the unique donabe (Japanese hot pot) dinner to enjoy in-room, in the study or within the rooftop garden.
  • The room service menu features complimentary appetizers from noon until 5 p.m. and includes oysters, crudités, a charcuterie and cheese plate, and gyudon (sliced Miyazaki wagyu served over rice.)
  • Due to the intimate size and romantic nature of the property, children under the age of 12 are not permitted to stay. The Master Suite has a convertible couch that is suitable for teens in tow.
  • SingleThread’s knowledgeable concierge can help plan your stay by scheduling tours and tastings, and providing personalized recommendations. After making your booking, the team will email to assist in planning your trip.

The Rooms

  • For the ultimate retreat in the downtown Healdsburg hotel, check into the luxurious 700-square-foot Master Suite. The contemporary space features a living room, bedroom, balcony and kitchenette, as well as 14-foot ceilings with redwood beams, exposed brick and a gas fireplace.
  • Ranging from 450 to 500 square feet, four additional guest rooms feel even larger with 14-foot ceilings. Redwood beams and exposed white brick add a modern touch to the airy accommodations.
  • No detail has been overlooked here — custom furnishings are designed by New York firm AvroKO, linens come from Matouk and Restoration Hardware, and the vases are made by local potter Mitsuko Siegrist.
  • The centerpiece of every accommodation is a dramatic paper ceiling lantern. Designed by paper artist Jiangmei Wu, these fixtures take the shape of an onion flower in homage to SingleThread’s logo.
  • Photo-ready bathrooms feature Japanese Toto toilets, heated floors and large soaking tubs and walk-in rain showers stocked with Aesop toiletries. Lighted makeup mirrors, hair dryers, Chi flat irons, Harry’s razors and Botnia skin care products ensure you have everything you need to primp for a night out in wine country.

The Restaurant

  • At the celebrated first-floor SingleThread Restaurant, chef Kyle changes his small-plate kaiseki-style dinner menu daily based on Katina’s farm harvest.
  • Guests staying two or more nights are offered the option of the multicourse donabe dinner featuring selections from the farm, the best available seafood, sashimi, a choice of communal hot pot dishes and a donabe dessert reflective of the season.
  • Each overnight stay includes elaborate morning options. Choices range from the Sonoma Breakfast (seasonal fruits, local cheeses, yogurt) to the English Breakfast (featuring the traditional toad in the hole) to the Japanese Breakfast (with misozuke king salmon, sweet corn and miso soup) as well as à la carte items.
