Eden Rock - St. Barths

A storied, ultra-luxe resort in St. Barts
VERIFIED LUXURY
Editor's note: Eden Rock - St. Barths is closed for post-hurricane renovations and will reopen in late 2018.

St. Barts' legendary Eden Rock was the first hotel on the famously swanky island. Perched on a rocky promontory over Baie de St. Jean, the boutique resort attracts an international in-crowd with its fabulous rooms and suites, the management’s careful cosseting of high-profile guests, and a sustained commitment to maintaining the gorgeous property’s appeal to A-List clientele.

Guests will find themselves in the middle of St. Barts’ buzzy scene, where one can easily walk to some of the island’s best shopping, dining, nightlife and water sport activities. A coral reef just off the shore beckons snorkelers, and the gentle waves of the Caribbean are ideal for laid-back kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • You’d be remiss not to spend at least one day lounging on the gorgeous beach, basking in both the Caribbean sun and the attention of the dedicated beach attendants.
  • For the active set, the resort offers a wide array of water sports as well as yachting and fishing excursions that take full advantage of your island surroundings.
  • Enjoy an array of soothing massages at the Eden Rock Spa or pretty much anywhere you please: in the privacy of your suite, on your shaded terrace or on the sandy beach overlooking the turquoise blue sea.
  • The Legacy Suites are a worthwhile (and fun) splurge, decorated to reflect the personalities of legendary guests like Greta Garbo (Hollywood glamour) and Howard Hughes (copper bathrooms, aeronautic memorabilia).
  • Enjoy international cuisine with an island flair by Jean-Georges Vongerichten at both of Eden Rock’s restaurants: On The Rocks and Sand Bar.

Things to Know

  • The luxurious beachside Villa Nina has its own private art gallery, large stone terraces and an Italian kitchen.
  • For those looking for a little culture, meander through the hotel to admire all of the art.
  • Rather than hitting the gym, opt for a private yoga session or personal fitness training in the air-conditioned fitness center.

The Rooms

  • Eden Rock’s 34 rooms, suites and villas are located up on the rock, within pretty gardens, and along the beach. Each is decorated uniquely, with furnishings ranging from traditionally elegant four-poster beds to sleek, contemporary sofas.
  • Guest rooms are creatively accented with antiques, original fine art, and personal touches of whimsy. The result? The overall look is more like a posh island home than a luxury resort.
  • The varied range and style of rooms means you have plenty of options, from the charming 450-square-foot accommodations to the super-luxurious, 16,000-square-foot private Villa Rockstar.
  • All guest rooms have the latest in technological playthings, custom-made European linens and Ligne St Barth beauty products.

The Restaurants
  • World-famous chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is behind the globally inspired menus at Eden Rock’s two restaurants, On The Rocks and Sand Bar.
  • He brings some of his personal favorite dishes from his many restaurants to the dinner menu at On The Rocks. Diners swoon for the Foie Gras Brulé with pineapple-meyer lemon jam, and the Lamb Saddle with smoked chili glaze and crunchy polenta.
  • At the beachside Sand Bar, lunch and dinner is light Mediterranean-influenced fare — delicious wood-grilled pizzas (try the truffle one), great burgers, salads and unbelievable desserts.
  • A lavish daily buffet breakfast is included in the room rate and available only to hotel guests.
