Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa

A sleek seaside hideaway in St. Barts

St. Barts is known as a jet-set haven, but Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa is the definition of quiet luxury. Designed to embrace its natural surroundings, the hotel’s 44 rooms and two private villas are discreetly tucked on one of the island’s finest stretches of sand, on the eastern edge of Grand Cul de Sac. The sister property to Champagne stunnerRoyal Champagne Hotel & Spa, Le Barthélemy beautifully blends French sophistication with the Caribbean’s characteristic laid-back culture, while giving back to the island through sustainable initiatives and activities like coral restoration and zero-waste cooking classes.

Bookended by a lagoon and beach, interior designer Sybille de Margerie (also behind Mandarin Oriental, Paris and Cheval Blanc Courchevel) infused the philosophy of French minimalism (a color palette of coastal shades and mix of wood tones throughout) while not overpowering the true highlight of the rooms — ocean views. Terraces put you steps away from the white-sand shore and crystal-clear turquoise water, punctuated only by a few boats bobbing in the distance.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Le Spa is a holistic haven and the only in the Caribbean to tout luxe beauty brand La Mer. In addition to massages and treatments, you can sample alternative therapies like biofield tuning to release blocked energy and sound baths combining gongs and tuning forks.
  • Dining at signature eatery Amis St. Barth extends from the open-air, pavilion-style restaurant to the beach. Cuisine from noted chef Jéremy Czaplick takes a cue from French-Caribbean and southern European fare (with a fine-dining touch) and guests can order picnic “baskets” outfitted with rosé and other gourmet goodies, plus beach essentials like chairs and umbrellas.
  • Two private villas are perched above the sea and feature sprawling, 55-foot infinity pools that frame the beach — which you can access directly from your private terrace. Each accommodates up to 12 guests in six bedrooms, making them perfect for families or groups traveling together.
  • Choose to sun and swim in the tranquil crescent-shaped lagoon fronting the St. Barts hotel or its expansive infinity pool, which bears Le Barthélemy’s sand dollar logo on its floor.
  • Watersport equipment like glass-bottom kayaks, paddle boards and snorkels are included in your stay, but you can also book kitesurfing lessons (the calm waters are ideal for the sport) or excursions like private cruises that set off straight from the lagoon.

Things to Know

  • Soak up sunset views during a yoga or Pilates session by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean.
  • Families can book connecting or split-level suites with first-floor access to the beach.
  • Simply calling Le Barthélemy pet-friendly isn’t doing the luxury hotel’s over-the-top service justice — your pup will have everything from its own reserved lounge chair to dog-friendly paddle boards and kayaks and personalized meals crafted from freshly caught fish.
