Inn at Perry Cabin

A charming Chesapeake country house hotel
VERIFIED LUXURY
From its origins as a country house built in 1812 on the banks of the Miles River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore to its rise to fame in the 2005 movie Wedding Crashers, Inn at Perry Cabin is known as one of the East Coast’s finest retreats.

Designed in traditional colonial style and updated several times thereafter, the inn was originally home purser Samuel Hambleton, a Navy veteran of the War of 1812. Since the mid 20th century, the property has operated as a hotel, first as a simple inn and then as a larger and more luxurious resort when it was purchased in 1989 by Sir Bernard Ashley of Laura Ashley fame, where the property rose to prominence as a luxury hotel and resort. Inn at Perry Cabin offers a serene coastal escape with a touch of luxury.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The property still retains much of its historic charms, but today has a slightly more contemporary feel, with lighter and more streamlined fabrics and furnishings that let the natural beauty of the grounds shine through.
  • The lushly landscaped grounds are complete with croquet and bocce ball courts.
  • The hotel’s zero-edge swimming pool is a marvel to behold.
  • The acclaimed Spa at Perry Cabin offers a curated list of pampering, locally inspired treatments that utilize indigenous herbs.
  • All of the accommodations were recently reimagined by New York-based designer Alexandra Champalimaud to feature a neutral-toned color palette, charming wicker furniture and dark wood accents. To complement the chic design, many of the well-appointed rooms also have spectacular water views and cozy fireplaces.
Things to Know
  • Inn at Perry Cabin will satisfy couples and families alike with its quiet, restful aura.
  • Visitors spend their days on the water — many come by boat — or ride the hotel’s complimentary bicycles into the town of St. Michaels, which is full of antique shops, boutiques and restaurants.
  • Some room types feature working fireplaces, while all rooms include flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi.
  • The active set will appreciate the recent addition of the Pete Dye-designed Links at Perry Cabin and three har-tru clay tennis courts, both unveiled in 2018. Onsite golf and tennis pros are both available for lessons and clinics.
  • The outdoor pool closes for the season around late October.
The Rooms
  • Each of the inn's 78 accommodations offer a unique layout, from intimate spaces to expansive suites.
  • The recently redesigned rooms include nods to the region's colonial history. Don’t worry — we don’t mean feather-ticked mattresses, just dark wood furnishings and plantation shutters, complemented by nautically inspired artwork with tranquil water or garden views.
  • Bathrooms have been modernized, some with deep soaking tubs and others with rain-head showers, and include Gilchrist & Soames amenities.
  • Some rooms feature private terraces and walkout balconies overlooking the grounds, gardens and water.
  • The top suite, dubbed the Master Suite, offers a spacious separate living and sleeping area, oversized private terrace, and one and a half baths, including a separate soaking tub and walk-in rain shower.
The Restaurants
  • The St. Michaels hotel features three onsite bars and restaurants. The main restaurant is Stars, serving three meals daily on the terrace or in the restaurant.
  • Offering American fare with local Chesapeake influence, Stars prepares dishes with ingredients like Maryland crabmeat from the bay and local heirloom tomatoes picked fresh from local farms. Pair your regionally inspired meal with a selection from the inn's extensive wine cellar or collection of rare bourbons and whiskeys.
  • Purser’s Pub and the pool bar are the places to be for cocktails. Sip a Lemon Drop martini and enjoy a light bite or play a round of chess in front of the fire or in the garden courtyard dotted with outdoor fire pits.
  • When the weather warms up, head to the High Tide Pool Bar for a crab cake sandwich and blueberry lemonade (blueberry vodka, fresh lemonade and club soda).
