Regent Taipei

Contemporary chic in central Taipei
VERIFIED LUXURY
Regent Taipei has been a stalwart address for both well-heeled leisure and business travelers since it opened in 1990. Although it is centrally located near shopping, museums and entertainment venues, the hotel is a bit of a draw itself — it houses the boutique-laden Regent Galleria shopping center, seven restaurants, a luxe spa and a rooftop pool.

At the entrance, a doorman clad in a crisp white uniform stands at attention, tall glass doors stream sunlight over the black marble floors and a piano flutters in the background. Designed by Chhada Siembieda and Associates, the lobby has an Art Deco feel that wouldn’t look out of place in 1920s New York, with central elevators and an enormous open atrium that looks up at the hotel’s dining establishments.

Things to Know
• Athletes and the more health conscious will appreciate the Technogym equipment at the fitness center, however a drab basement location doesn’t afford much character.

• The Taipei hotel is located in one of the more artistic districts, evident in the sculpture park, high-brow film house, designer shops and traditional Chinese medicine stores that reside next to the hotel.

• Within a 10-minute walk, you also will find delicious bites at Dihua Street market, contemporary works at the Taipei City Fine Art Museum and the world-famous Eslite Bookstore.
The Rooms
• The rooms embrace a contemporary Oriental feel — think soft gray, silver and beige with pretty Chinese accents peppered throughout.

• Starting at 484 square feet, the rooms include a deep-soaking marble tub, a marble bathroom, a specialty pressure-releasing bed and a pillow menu.

• The Tai Pan Club rooms on the 18th and 19th floors include lots of perks like access to the newly renovated business lounge, which provides all-day snacks, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, happy hour cocktails and private conference rooms.
The Restaurants
• Indulge in traditional Japanese shabu shabu, robatayaki and kaiseki cuisines at Mihan Honke. A prime selection of sake is available here too.

• Robin’s Teppanyaki serves up a spectacular fusion of Western ingredients cooked on a traditional Japanese teppanyaki-style grill and served with French style.

• From steaming baskets of dim sum to sumptuous banquet dishes, the Silks House offers Szechuan and Cantonese cuisine in a stunning Chinese-inspired fine dining room.

• For special occasions, indulge in steaks and expert sommelier service at Robin’s Grill or simply unwind over afternoon tea at Gallery, which looks out over the lobby atrium.

• If you can’t decide, opt for the all-day buffet at Brasserie.
