Celebrity Beyond, part of Celebrity Cruises’ Edge series that debuted in April 2022, distinguishes itself with an emphasis on wellness. The company tapped the patron saint of wellness, goop founder and CEO Gwyneth Paltrow, to serve as its well-being advisor, and she used Beyond to launch goop at Sea, which set sail in September 2022, offering movement classes led by choreographer and Broadway dancer Isaac Boots; workshops with psychological astrologer Jennifer Freed; wellness courses with Dr. Ellen Vora; cooking classes; and more.
The design and décor of the ship feel au currant, fitting for the cruise brand that aims to appeal to a younger crowd. In fact, it might be fair to say that Celebrity Beyond will appeal to a whole new generation of cruisers, who prioritize details like gluten-free buffet stations, a Nate Berkus-designed midcentury-modern Sunset Bar, a Daniel Boulud restaurant (the DANIEL chef’s first at sea), an app that allows you to customize the lighting and temperature of your stateroom and Peloton bikes in the fitness studio.
Beyond elevates the innovative structural features of a Celebrity Edge cruise ship (including the floating Magic Carpet platform that moves up and down the vessel’s exterior and the “infinite veranda” replacing balconies in the staterooms) to new heights with an extra deck (17 in total), an expanded top deck, more restaurants and bars, 179 additional rooms and 29 extra suites, and the largest suites in the fleet.
- Among the 32 food and drink venues, Le Voyage shines. It’s Celebrity’s first restaurant created in partnership with star chef Daniel Boulud, of New York City’s beloved Five-Star restaurant Daniel.
- The Grand Plaza serves as the center of the ship’s action. The three-story spot thrums with a social buzz, and atmospheric lighting changes to set and match the mood throughout the day. Jouin Manku designed the space, and the firm’s European-chic touch is felt throughout, particularly in the creamy peach and earth tone accents and the centerpiece chandelier.
- Guests will welcome the well-thought-out design of the 1,646 staterooms. The hidden storage space, clean Scandinavian lines and the Edge class series signature infinite verandas that convert the staterooms into indoor-outdoor spaces and allow access to fresh air help make it modern and functional.
- Those who opt to book one of the AquaClass staterooms have access to a range of exclusive, wellness-centric perks such as access to the healthy restaurant Blu, the thermal suite and a two-story sundeck.
- Similar to a resort-within-a-resort, The Retreat offers the most luxurious accommodations — like the two-story Edge Villa with alfresco plunge pools and the vast Iconic Suites with more than 2,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space — and coveted amenities like butler service and entry to The Retreat sundeck. And Beyond’s sundeck is 40 percent larger than those found on previous Edge class ships.
- Gold medalist Simone Biles was the ship’s godmother, a perfect fit for the Celebrity’s ethos of celebrating women’s strength, with Kate McCue as the captain and the first American woman to helm a major cruise ship.
- Celebrity Beyond summer itineraries center skews Eurocentric with trips to the Italian and French Rivieras, the Greek Islands, Malta and Italy. Come next fall through early spring, Beyond will journey across the Caribbean, stopping in the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Mexico and the Cayman Islands.
