Tenaya Stone Spa channels the elements of nature, the indigenous cultures of California and the Craftsman design of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Opened in 2021, the 6,000-square-foot spa is meant to be a relaxing natural haven. Dawn Jackson, a Native American cultural adviser at Disney, worked with area tribal elders to draw from the state’s heritage for the design, looking at the land’s ancestors and the materials they used. Disney’s famous Imagineers translated that into warm, wood-filled interiors with a stone centerpiece blessed and gifted by a Miwok family, a tree root chandelier with glowing gems hanging from its branches, tree trunk columns and floors made of wood rounds.
Said to be interpreted as “to dream” in the indigenous culture of the Yosemite Valley, Tenaya will leave you in a dream-like state with treatments like the Tenaya River Stone Massage, where smooth, warm stones and aromatherapy oil enriched with vitamins and minerals erase tension from your body.
- Every detail of the Anaheim spa is thoughtfully designed and aims to transport you to a tranquil space far from the bustling theme park nearby. From the unique wood floor, with rounds instead of planks so you can see the tree’s rings, to the stained-glass window of sun rays in the wood-ceilinged and -paneled lounge, you are reminded of the world outside.
- Using the concept of the natural order of four, found throughout many indigenous cultures around the world, the spa adopts four directions, four colors, four elements and four points of wellness in its design and treatments.
- Look for the unusual tree root chandelier at the entrance. It represents the water element since roots go down into the earth and soak up moisture.
- Among the more unique treatments available is the 80-minute four-step Wild Honey and Mud Body Renewal, which includes a red clay and micro-pumice exfoliation, a peat mud nutrient mask, and a fruit serum and oil massage.
- After a day of standing in lines and wandering the park, a foot massage is just the answer for weary soles. The 50-minute Mindful Traveler Foot Treatment features an exfoliating foot soak and a rubdown designed to help increase circulation and reduce lower leg muscle stress.
- You’ll want to arrive 30 minutes before your spa treatment to enjoy the amenities, which include a relaxation lounge, steam room and boutique.
- Spa services are for adults age 18 and up, though ages 14 to 17 may book certain treatments if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Also, some salon services are available for ages 10 to 13 with a guardian present.
- If you are not an overnight guest at the Grand Californian, five hours of complimentary self-parking is included when you spend $125 or more at the luxury spa.
