The Phoenician Spa

Transformative relaxation in the Arizona desert
VERIFIED LUXURY

The Phoenician Spa likens its journey to that of a rising phoenix. The spa debuted a brand-new look in 2018, its first top-to-bottom renovation since The Phoenician hotel opened in 1988. It is a gorgeous three-story space crowned by a fantastic rooftop pool.

Just like the mythical rising phoenix, The Phoenician Spa has risen to compete with the top facilities in a city with the most spas per capita in the United States.

The design team of Parker Torres used the mythical story as inspiration, paying homage to the phoenix through the use of gold, which represents sun and fire, and art that symbolizes personal rebirth. The legend of the phoenix encourages spa-goers to transform at this luxury wellness center, a reborn desert favorite.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Don’t miss the rooftop pool with killer views of Phoenix’s iconic Camelback Mountain. Rent one of eight cabanas or just grab a chair and a guilt-free cucumber gimlet and drink in the scene.
  • The Phoenician Spa has some of the most intriguing fitness classes of any facility in the city, including aerial sound meditation, somatic movement and yin and yang yoga.
  • Both men and women’s locker rooms offer a soothing vitality hot tub with seating for 10 — the right way to begin (or end) your spa session.
  • After your treatment, head to Drybar to get primped for a night out. The Scottsdale spa is the only facility in the area to boast an outpost of this popular blowout chain.
  • The 1,400-square-foot shop features an aromatherapy blending bar. Create your own scent to use in your treatment or to purchase for some at-home pampering.

Things to Know

  • Book your spa service on a weekday to enjoy less-crowded facilities and off-peak pricing.
  • If you don't want to book a treatment but could use a spin in the hydrotherapy circuit, you can buy a spa day pass. These coveted spots are available for resort guests only.
  • Arrive 30 minutes early to take part in the hydrotherapy ritual, alternating hot and cold water, sauna and steam experiences.

The Treatments

  • The Aroma Design experience allows you to blend your own scent at the Aroma Design Bar for use in a massage or body polish.
  • Massage lovers must try the 80-minute Body and Soul. Designed for sheer relaxation, the treatment incorporates an organic sage, lavender and arnica oil blend that encourages the body to release tension, while steaming towels help drive the healing properties of the oil deep into muscles.
  • For a taste of Scottsdale, try the Gem Stone Healing, a 100 percent natural, vegan facial where crystals and gems are placed on the body to produce healing energy. A gem polish is used to exfoliate the skin, and a rose quartz clay mask draws out toxins.
  • The luxury spa provides five journeys to turn your treatment into a day of relaxation. Try the Azurite to enjoy an Artisan Massage, Personal Remedy Facial and Desert Bliss Pedicure.

The Facilities

  • The 37,000-square-foot spa boasts 24 treatment rooms, one couple’s suite and one 600-square-foot Tranquility Suite that suits girlfriend getaways, bachelorette parties and other celebrations.
  • Before or after a treatment, head to the quiet room to relax on plush loungers by the aqua fireplace.
  • Make a day of it with a healthy lunch of Mediterranean favorites like hummus or a kebab bento box beside the rooftop pool.
  • In addition to the spa and Drybar, there is a nail salon with six pedicure and four manicure stations.
  • Shop for skincare products, resort wear, inspirational jewelry and healthy snacks in The Phoenician Spa’s boutique.
