The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain

VERIFIED LUXURY
The spirit of the Sonoran Desert permeates The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain near Tucson, Arizona. Windowed areas reveal views of the Tortolita Mountains or Wild Burro Canyon. Native American carvings are visible from the outdoor serenity pool while the spa interior is influenced by the colors of the desert. If there was ever a place to find balance in a natural setting, this is it.

Housed in a separate 17,000-square-foot building, the spa is a quiet oasis of luxury and relaxation. Innovative treatments are centered on organic and eco-friendly therapies including herbs used by the Hohokam Indians who once lived in the area. By the time your day at the spa is over, you’ll be one with the desert.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Like the resort it resides in, this Ritz-Carlton spa seamlessly blends into its desert surroundings. This is especially true at the outdoor serenity pool where Native American carvings were left undisturbed and are visible from the relaxation deck.

• The 10 treatment rooms are clustered around an outdoor courtyard, taking advantage of the almost 300 sunny days that Tucson experiences each year.

• Sip on lemon- or orange-infused ice water or various types of hot tea, and munch on dried fruits and nuts, apples and citrus fruits from the resort’s own citrus grove in the cozy relaxation room.

• You’ll see shelves filled with products, candles and other such gifts available for purchase in the reception area of the luxe spa. These include the signature Ritz-Carlton scented products as well as other brands.

• Exclusive to spa goers only, the pool is quieter and less visited crowded than the hotel’s pool, so it’s a great place to get in some alone time while you can.
Things to Know
• Experiencing the holistic treatments of the desert spa is as simple as picking up the phone to make an appointment. When you do, the staff can help you decide between treatments like The Dove Mountain Detox Body Wrap or the signature massage.

• Be sure to book at least a week in advance to ensure you get the treatments you really want.

• The facility welcomes day guests as well as hotel patrons.

• A note about cancellations: The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa requests six hours notice if you need to scratch a treatment reservation to avoid being charged for the full amount.
The Treatments
• Embracing Your Elements treatment is a signature treatment that focuses on the natural elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Using your date of birth to customize the treatment according to your elemental imbalances, you’ll spend 90 minutes having a bath, skin brush application, mask, scalp treatment, massage and energy balancing.

• Renew your skin without going under the knife with the Non-Surgical Face Lift With micro-current therapy, your skin will be firmed, toned and sculpted back to a more youthful glow.

•  We’ve all spent too much time in the sun and soon regret it. The Desert Aloe Veil treatment is just the thing to help your skin feel cooler with an aloe and tea tree application on your body and a scalp or foot massage to help ease the pain.

• Hohokam Stone Massage uses warm basalt stones to leave you feeling less stressed and help with any arthritis pain or sore muscles.

• When we visited, we enjoyed a seasonal fall treatment of a coffee almond massage with delicious coffee and almond oil and lotions. For winter, enjoy a champagne mimosa massage using champagne mimosa oils.
The Facilities
• The wet areas are pretty glamourous, so you’ll want to be sure to spend some time relaxing in them.

• In each relaxation area/locker room — there are separate ones for men and women — there’s an outdoor area with a dry sauna and a steam room.

• Sitting outside between the two is a Jacuzzi that faces a fireplace. It’s the perfect setting to relax before a massage and get your muscles warmed up.

• There’s also a co-ed saltwater pool located outside, where you can sprawl out on one of the loungers or a tanning island in the middle of the pool or rent out one of the bed-like cabanas.

• Showers are stocked with bath products so you can wash off before or after treatments.
