The West Hollywood EDITION

A design darling in West Hollywood
VERIFIED LUXURY

A gas-station-turned-glittering-getaway, The West Hollywood EDITION is a hot spot on L.A.'s iconic Sunset Strip. With playful interiors designed by Ian Schrager and a minimalistic build by famed U.K. architect John Pawson, the 13-story, 190-room hotel is strikingly modern yet approachable.

You’ll notice the dichotomy immediately upon entering through the grand cedar door — sleek Italian travertine marble flooring and columns are juxtaposed with pops of eye-catching color, like a chartreuse pool table, bright blue couches and emerald velvet armchairs. And the green factor, quite literally, is perhaps the hotel’s most mesmerizing design feature: more than $1.2 million was spent on floor-to-ceiling greenery, vine-covered terraces and lush tropical potted plants that punctuate public spaces throughout.

But this high-end hotel is about more than just looks. The West Hollywood EDITION caters to every whim with a stylish restaurant, full-service spa, 24-hour gym, nightclub and rooftop pool and bar. Overall, it’s a tribute to the SoCal lifestyle: sophisticated with a side of fun. Plus, the cityscape views from most rooms do not disappoint.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The West Hollywood EDITION’s restaurant Ardor is the latest see-and-be-seen eatery in Los Angeles. Slide into a low-lit, white leather booth and enjoy a creative mezcal cocktail, milk bread rolls and dry-aged duck while the glamorous scene unfolds.
  • Expect eye contact, a smile and a warm greeting from each and every staff member you encounter at the Sunset Strip hotel.
  • With views that span from downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean, the property’s rooftop lounge and bar The Roof is a chic spot for a power lunch or a sundowner with friends.
  • In keeping with Schrager’s nightlife roots (he co-founded Studio 54, after all), onsite Sunset evokes the vintage vibe of the dozens of clubs that dotted the Sunset Strip in the 1960s and ’70s. Stop by to listen to a roster of guest DJs and dance the night away under 300 disco balls.
  • The luxury hotel’s six-room spa specializes in alternative wellness treatments, like CBD facials and massages, sound bathing, yogic sleep meditation and Hypervolt vibration therapy.

Things to Know

  • Check in while relaxing with a drink at the lobby bar. Simply tell the bartender and front desk staff will come to you — no hassles, no waiting.
  • This Los Angeles hotel is a hub for celebrity guests — that’s why there’s a private entrance to Sunset nightclub off Doheny Drive and a helicopter landing pad.
  • For the best views, request a westward-facing room on floors three and above. On the first and third floors, rooms are wired for press junkets.
  • The property’s plush screening room with gray velour seating (including a few recliners) is quite possibly the most luxurious movie theater in L.A.
  • By day, the rooftop pool is an exclusive oasis for guests of The West Hollywood EDITION. After sunset, the alfresco spot opens up to the public.

The Rooms

  • Decorated in neutral tones — including whitewashed teak throughout — and floor-to-ceiling windows capturing L.A.’s dreamy weather, the rooms perpetuate the feeling you’ve just checked into your own private spa retreat.
  • Amenities we adore include EDITION-signature-scented (black tea, cedar and bergamot) Le Labo bathroom products, a mini-bar filled with artisanal goodies, smart TVs with streaming services, freestanding tubs and spacious balconies or terraces in choice rooms.
  • If you're a sun seeker, book room 143 — it has the largest terrace, complete with chic outdoor furnishings.

The Restaurants

  • The vibe at the West Hollywood hotel’s Ardor is vintage-supper-club-meets-tropical-greenhouse. Helmed by respected chef John Fraser, the stylish venue pays tribute to fresh farmers market veggies in dishes like arugula farro risotto, but there’s plenty of delights for carnivores, too, including A5 Japanese wagyu steak or Atlantic black bass.
  • Ardor’s wine menu is a love letter to California vino, from funky natural to big, bold varietals.
  • Casual poolside restaurant The Roof offers fanciful Latin-inspired tapas like Dungeness crab nachos, and duck confit empanadas.
  • From the nightclub to the rooftop pool, cocktail menus are unique to each restaurant or bar in the L.A. hotel. If you’re a mezcal or tequila fan, head to Ardor’s bar or The Roof to check out the impressive spirits selections.
  • With the backbar shelves stocked to the ceiling with premium spirits, the stunning lobby bar is ideal for a light snack and an indulgent nightcap like Macallan 18-year Scotch or Don Julio 1942.
