Carneros Resort and Spa

Farmhouse charm in Wine Country
VERIFIED LUXURY
Carneros Resort and Spa is one of Northern California’s most luxurious Wine Country retreats. The property sits on 28 acres of rolling hillside in the Los Carneros region, offering an incredible location.

This spacious property is the closest high-end resort to every major airport from San Francisco to San Jose and sits on the border of Napa and Sonoma counties. Nowhere else in Wine Country will you have access to such a variety of vineyards.

Normally, you would have to choose one valley over the other, but stay at Carneros and both the Sonoma Square and downtown Napa are less than a 20-minute drive away. Explore the wineries of Sonoma (Scribe, Patz & Hall and Kamen Estate) one day and the next visit the tasting rooms of Napa (Chandon, Stewart Cellars and Trefethen).

Although the resort opened in 2003, it recently underwent an upscale remodel and rebranding to deliver even more luxury, from the fireside butler who will light up your cottage fire pit to a mood-lifting spa that solely caters to hotel guests.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • There are 86 quaint cottages, including six private multi-bedroom residences and eight multi-bedroom suites. Each cottage has a semi-private outdoor relaxing space, like a front porch with rocking chairs or a back patio with a soothing fountain, fire pit, lounge chairs and soaking tub.
  • The lobby, FARM restaurant, Boon Fly Cafe and the onsite Market general store are open to the public. However, the majority of the property is accessible to hotel guests only.
  • Behind the farm’s fences, you’ll find two pools, impeccably landscaped grounds, stunning vineyard views and an inviting must-visit Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa.
  • It doesn’t matter when you visit the Northern California hotel; the property is gorgeous year-round. Fat palm trees, yellow and purple wildflowers, and lots of greenery fill the communal outdoor walkways.
  • The Napa hotel takes pride in its lush natural surroundings. Cottages are named after local flora and fauna and the gardens that provide the restaurants with in-season produce and herbs are visible and tended to daily by the resort’s chefs.
Things to Know
  • Carneros Resort has an adult summer camp vibe — especially at the adults-only infinity pool at the top of the property, which is surrounded by lounge chairs, daybeds and vineyard views.
  • Take advantage of the resort’s unique amenities. You can check out bright orange bikes with baskets to ride around the property and to surrounding wineries.
  • Much of the décor (both indoors and out) is inspired by the farm culture of the surrounding countryside. Industrial metal animal troughs are transformed into gurgling water elements, while high, exposed ceilings and natural linens in earthy tones like orange, green and white make the rooms feel homey and unpretentious.
The Rooms
  • The cottages are modern yet cozy with a farmhouse appeal, whitewashed walls, bright white and cream linens, wood floors and electric fireplaces.
  • The bathrooms offer standalone showers with separate tubs and toilets, his-and-her sinks and heated stone floors.
  • Book a room with a backyard and you’ll be treated to a large deck space with lounge chairs, an electric fire pit, a picnic table with an umbrella, a soothing fountain, and a porcelain soaking tub.
  • Each room has a Nespresso coffee maker, a fridge stocked with complimentary water and sodas, and in-cottage dining services.
The Restaurants
  • Don’t miss a chance to dine at one of Napa’s hidden gems, FARM. The rustic fine-dining restaurant crafts dishes using ingredients found throughout the property, its garden and quarter-acre farm. The creative brunch is a must.
  • Fashioned to look like a roadhouse, The Boon Fly Café is the all-day dining venue. Come for the piping-hot, cinnamon-sugar-coated doughnuts in the morning and the crispy fried chicken (you get a half chicken) at night.
  • If you prefer to take advantage of the idyllic landscape and want a picnic or a more private meal on your cottage patio, pick up provisions at upscale general store Market.
  • Keep an eye out for Carneros Supper Club announcements. Executive chef Meneghelli will pair local wines with his dishes for themed, ticketed dinners.
  • For a less formal bite, visit FARM's Pavilion bar, where you can order pinot with some house-made charcuterie and enjoy live blues and jazz music.
