The New York EDITION

The epitome of understated elegance in NYC
VERIFIED LUXURY
Taking up residence in a historic clock tower (once the tallest building in the city), The New York EDITION is the epitome of understated elegance. Hospitality impresario Ian Schrager teamed with Marriott to open the boutique hotel in May 2015 in the Flatiron District.

Adjacent to Madison Square Park, it gives you direct access Manhattan’s trendy neighborhoods (Greenwich Village, Chelsea, NoMad, Gramercy Park) and sites (Eataly is across the park). Though you may loath to leave the hotel — its 360-degree views of New York are second to none and its beauty is timeless.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Many details from the original 1909 building still remain, such as the striking scalloped ceilings in the guest rooms and the mahogany paneled walls found on the second floor.
  • The spacious lobby lounge features a fireplace, comfy couches and a full bar with an impressive craft cocktail list. Try the Smoke & Spice, a mezcal, tequila, smoked pepper, demerara, lemon, and bitters libation served in a stylish glass.
  • Noted British chef Jason Atherton, whose restaurants are found in London, Shanghai, Dubai, Hong Kong and Sydney, turns out fine dining at the luxury New York City hotel's restaurant The Clocktower.
  • The Spa at The New York EDITION touts its intimate setting (there are only two treatment rooms) and purposeful menu. Opt to add on oxygen therapy, a calming and detoxifying service where you breathe in aromatherapy-infused oxygen, or reflexology during your massage session.
  • The chic 1,350-square-foot Penthouse Suite will leave you feeling like a celebrity with a living room complete with an L-shaped sofa, a separate dining room and kitchen, and two full bathrooms, all with views of Madison Square Park.
Things to Know
  • Renowned for its 41-story clock tower, the hotel has taken on the signature emblem of an owl to represent the spirit of the property, as owls were known to gather at the top of the landmark structure.
  • The spa is located next to a state-of-the-art 1,650-square-foot fitness facility, which is open around the clock. Personalized training is available upon request.
  • If you’re in town for business, check out the sprawling 2,200-square-foot event space. The beat of New York City is just outside the window, but the rooms feel surprisingly tranquil due to the EDITION’s luxurious and warm design.
The Rooms
  • The property features 271 rooms and 62 luxury suites, each enveloped in creamy off-white, beige, heather gray and sandy-colored tones.
  • Soft faux fur throws are juxtaposed with masculine dark wooden furniture and oak floors, creating a sophisticated, minimalist feel.
  • Original black-and-white photos from fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky adorn the walls of every guest room and floor, enhancing the classic New York milieu.
  • Each room is equipped with smart TVs with streaming capabilities, custom-made Le Labo bathroom amenities, a minibar filled with snacks from local spots, 24-hour room service and complimentary Wi-Fi, available throughout the hotel.
The Restaurants
  • From acclaimed restaurateur Stephen Starr and notable British chef Jason Atherton comes The Clocktower, The New York EDITION’s top dining spot.
  • The Clocktower presents a contemporary British menu with savory dishes like a Scotch egg with walnut ketchup, London-gin-cured salmon with an English muffin, braised lamb shepherd’s pie, beef Wellington, and beer-battered cod with mushy peas and seaweed tartar sauce, as well as sweets such as the banoffee baked Alaska.
  • The 3,165-square-foot restaurant is dazzling, with vintage black-and-white photographs of celebrities and NYC street scenes covering almost every inch of space of the historic mahogany-paneled walls.
  • Shoot a game of pool on the bright purple felt table in the billiards room, or grab a drink at the bar covered entirely in 24k gold leaf. Try the American Cereal Killer, concocted of Michter’s bourbon, Cheerios milk, Madagascan vanilla syrup and angostura bitters, served in a glass half pint milk carton.
