Kimpton Aluna Tulum

A retreat between the jungle and the sea

Find the sweet spot between contemporary life and a bohemian escape at Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum. Located in the Aldea Zama neighborhood, just minutes from both the downtown area and the beach, the upscale boutique hotel blends ancient style with modern Mexican sensibilities.

Explore ancient ruins and local cenotes, then come back to the hotel for a craft cocktail on the rooftop bar and a dip in the pool. While there, notice the objets d’art that pay homage to Mayan and Mexican culture, both in the rooms and public spaces. Or visit Parallel 20˚, the hotel’s breakfast, lunch and dinner destination that has floor-to-ceiling windows, a patio that feels like it's in the middle of the jungle and a menu featuring worldwide cuisine. Or take in Tulum’s mystical qualities at the spa with a Mayan Ritual Massage or amid nature with a vinyasa class on the outdoor yoga deck.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Choose from two pools for lounging and swimming. The ground-floor pool offers a greenery-tinged oasis with a swim-up bar and chaise lounges. Or head to the rooftop and look out over the jungle canopy while floating in the clear water. The roof also provides cabanas for those looking to take a break from the sun.
  • Dine on Mexican-Asian fusion food at the rooftop restaurant Bhanu Sky Kitchen. Think barbacoa tacos with bone marrow sauce, charbroiled oysters with panko and nori, papaya-lobster ravioli and pork belly bao with jicama.
  • Each room evokes the feeling of serenity thanks to the soft white hue of the walls, Frette linens and furnishings. Expect gentle pops of bright colors decking out the pillows scattered about on the handmade wood furniture, as well as deliveries of fresh flora to the room. Book the one-bedroom suite for an unforgettable stay. The space includes a stunning four-poster, king-sized bed, balcony and rooftop space with a hot tub. Made by the team behind Malin+Goetz, Atelier Bloem amenities stock the bathroom, a highlight of every suite on the property.
  • Look out for complimentary rooftop yoga classes, which usually happen at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The luxury hotel offers a calendar of events, and most activities are free to guests.
  • Utilize the resort's adventure concierge, a service offered that can help you plan outings and experiences in and around Tulum.

Nearby Attractions

  • Make sure your to-do list includes a stop at the stunning Sian Kaʼan Biosphere Reserve. In 1987, the area received a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation to protect the tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, and large marine section complete with a barrier reef. Look for the secret beach, where the water rolls in gentle teal waves and iguanas keep a look out.
  • Visit Mystika: An Immersive Mystical Experience either on your own or head to the museum with the resort via a weekly bike tour. The unique installation connects you with Mayan cosmology, local nature sanctuaries and the spiritual power of horses.
  • To see Mayan ruins, the original walled city of Tulum is less than 10 minutes via car.
  • While the Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum doesn't have direct beach access, it has partnered with Ikal Beach Club. This secluded jungle spot resides in Tulum National Park and offers an exclusive beach experience. Transportation can be arranged directly from the hotel.
  • Opt to swim in a cenote, a natural sinkhole that fills with water. Calavera, Cristal and Escondido (which sit across the street from each other), Zacil and Gran Cenote all are within 15 minutes of the Tulum hotel.
