One&Only Moonlight Basin

Rugged luxury in the heart of Big Sky
VERIFIED LUXURY

Opened in late 2025, One&Only Moonlight Basin brings the luxury brand’s first U.S. resort to Big Sky, Montana. Set across roughly 240 acres, the 92-key retreat pairs Olson Kundig’s striking glass-and-timber architecture with sweeping views of Lone Peak and residential-style layouts that emphasize privacy and space. Inside, fireplaces flick on at the touch of a button, cabins come with private hot tubs and accommodations feel as expansive as the surrounding wilderness.

The experience is built as much around access as aesthetics. A private gondola links directly to Big Sky Resort’s vast terrain, where more than 5,800 of skiable acres await. Off the slopes, guests can unwind at the expansive spa, linger over après-ski drinks at The Landing or settle in for destination dining from Akira Back. A hidden speakeasy tucked deep within the property adds an air of intrigue to the evening festivities.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Scenic and convenient, a dedicated gondola connects you directly to one of North America’s largest ski areas. It reframes a ski day from a logistical exercise into a near-effortless glide between the resort and the surrounding slopes.
  • Set across 240 acres, the property feels more like an exclusive mountain community than a traditional hotel, offering a sense of space and seclusion that can be rare in alpine resorts.
  • Rooms, suites, and standalone cabins feature floor-to-ceiling windows and tactile natural materials, such as pine wood walls and leather headboards. Many feature fireplaces and private outdoor hot tubs positioned to maximize views of Lone Peak and the majestic Montana landscapes.
  • The One&Only Moonlight Basin Spa borrows inspiration from the Montana wilds, making use of many local botanicals in its treatments. Ideal after a day outdoors, the experiences range from Augustinus Bader facials to CBD massages, cupping, oxygen therapy, sound baths, cryotherapy and Bastien Gonzalez foot rituals. There’s also a steam room, sauna and lap pool indoors, plus an outdoor onsen and cold plunge, to round out the experience.
  • Beyond skiing, the Big Sky hotel offers a wide range of adventures that make the surrounding wilderness feel accessible year-round. You can explore Yellowstone National Park with a wildlife guide, tackle scenic trails by fat-tire bike or, in warmer months, head into the mountains for fly fishing, kayaking, swimming and golf.

The Restaurants

  • Akira Back marks the chef's culinary debut in the Rocky Mountains, where he spent his formative years as a professional snowboarder. Curved green leather banquettes and warm wood tables overlook the surrounding pine forest, while the modern Japanese-Korean menu integrates regional ingredients — think fire-seared wagyu paired with local huckleberries — complemented by an exceptional sake program.
  • The luxury resort’s all-day-dining restaurant, Wildwood, is a vision of wood and leather with seasonal menus that shift with the rhythm of the mountains. Breakfast, lunch and dinner showcase ingredients sourced from nearby ranches and farms, creating a strong sense of connection to Montana. Mornings might begin with house-baked pastries, an acai bowl or yogurt drizzled with local honey, while dinner highlights beautifully prepared regional specialties such as bison, elk and freshly caught fish.
  • The Landing serves elevated American alpine fare —from buffalo smash burgers to chicken schnitzel and handmade pastas—alongside sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. Connected directly to the One&Only Moonlight Basin gondola, it’s an ideal spot to unwind after a day on the slopes with après-ski drinks and fireside dining.
  • Framed by wraparound mountain views, Dear Josephine is a moody cocktail lounge inspired by a local bootlegging legend. Rather than re-creating a rowdy Prohibition-era speakeasy, the space exudes understated sophistication, with crimson accents, velvet seating and a menu of whiskey-forward cocktails infused with local botanicals. Guests can also explore an impressive selection of moonshine alongside house-made cordials, vermouths and bitters.
  • For a real dose of adventure, head into the woods after dark to Moonshack, a rustic cabin where live country music, poker, cigars, whiskey and stargazing set the tone. Accessible by heated buggy — or skis, for the more adventurous — the secluded speakeasy is set within a private observatory. Astronomy enthusiasts can take the experience a step further by booking a private stargazing session with the resort's resident astronomer.
