Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf

A Wharf hot spot
VERIFIED LUXURY

Tucked inside a striking angular modernist building along D.C.’s Wharf waterfront, Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf brings a new hot spot to the popular neighborhood.

The hottest place in the stylish hotel (interiors courtesy of DesignAgency) is Moonraker, a bold rooftop lounge with a circular bar, black-and-white-striped floors, royal blue and mustard seating, and an expansive terrace overlooking the Potomac River. (Tip: Check out the adjacent hallway for a wall of candid photos that capture little-seen sides of U.S. presidents, like Obama surfing and Kennedy enjoying an ice cream cone.)

The atmospheric Bar Pendry also draws in crowds at the black stone bar and the curved booths amid navy wallpaper covered with golden palms. The water and boat vistas at bright, airy Flora Flora, the all-day Latin American restaurant, lure in visitors as well.

Overall, the hotel feels intimate and residential. To check in, you’ll sit down on burnt sienna chairs at a desk fronting a tall bookcase and fireplace. The 131 neutral, contemporary accommodations have white walls, wood floors, arched doorways and black metal four-poster beds that feel like home when you climb into them.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • You can’t ask for a better location. Set on the mile-long waterfront stretch at The Wharf, the D.C. hotel anchors The Grove, a square that’s home to two Gordon Ramsay restaurants (Fish and Chips and Hell's Kitchen), casual spot Bartaco, forthcoming Greek-Mediterranean eatery Limani and Kilwins chocolate and ice cream shop. In front of the Pendry, a shared deck offers a small stage and a large firepit. And popular attractions like concert venue The Anthem, Recreation Pier’s rope swings and The Municipal Fish Market are just a short stroll away.
  • Find the antidote to steamy D.C. days at the waterfront pool terrace. Swim in the saltwater, soak in the whirlpool, gaze at the river or hide from the sun in the cabanas or under the black-and-white-striped umbrellas. It’s even a destination when the weather isn’t ideal — the pool waters are heated.
  • The dark, intimate Bar Pendry would feel like a speakeasy if it weren’t off the lobby. Take in the art nouveau décor with an Aggregate Hospitality (a tropical cocktail with Stiggins pineapple-infused rum, pineapple and lime juices and pineapple syrup) and snacks like poached Old Bay shrimp and mini lobster corn dogs.
  • Unwind in Spa Pendry, a five-treatment-room refuge where you can get pampered with massages (you can even have one tailor-made) and facials (Brighten + Refine revives your skin with an ice globe massage and LED therapy).
  • Don’t miss Moonraker, a window-lined rooftop lounge with incredible river views. When the weather warms up, the walls collapse, transforming the lounge and spacious terrace into an inviting indoor-outdoor space. Nosh on Japanese bites like Tokyo fried chicken and sushi and sip the Cuzu (Roku gin, St-Germain, cucumber, yuzu, mint and Fever Tree lime-yuzu soda) while admiring the vista.

Things to Know

  • Pendry’s Cadillac house car can transport you to destinations in the immediate vicinity for free.
  • Hit the 24-hour gym to use the Technogym and Tonal machines, Peloton bikes, weights and yoga equipment. If you need to relieve those sore muscles, visit the Theragun station.
  • Explore the waterfront, the nearby National Mall or beyond on one of the hotel’s Scott e-bikes, a complimentary guest perk.
  • The luxury hotel curated running routes on the RunGo app. There’s even a seasonal trail that leads you through the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin.
