The Spa at Palmetto Bluff

An intimate Lowcountry spa escape
VERIFIED LUXURY
Plantation shutters, Spanish moss and the surrounding verdant countryside heighten the serenity of true Southern hospitality at The Spa at Palmetto Bluff, the cottage-style oasis at Montage Palmetto Bluff. The spa follows the classic cottage interior design style of the property. Like its villas and cottages (there are no traditional hotel rooms), the Bluffton spa stands alone in a two-story building along a paved path that runs through the property.

Park the beach cruiser that came with your cottage outside the luxury spa and walk through a beautifully landscaped, enclosed, front space that mimics the sanctuary feel of the building’s interior.

Once inside the Bluffton spa, guests approach a reception desk. Behind it, large windows offer a peek at the Bluff's grassy and naturist property while also allowing the sun to warm and amply light the two-story lobby. While most of the building is decorated in white, neutral tans and pale beige tones, the nail salon is a creamsicle orange, adding a pop of vibrancy to the otherwise calming design scheme.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• The calming spa is only is only a short bike - or golf-cart - ride away from most of the cottage’s accommodations.

• With plenty of options to choose from, you can't go wrong with any of the items on the special lovers menu. Whether you indulge in the blind date treatment with full-body massages, back exfoliation and a foot soak while you sip on champagne and feed each other oysters, or the lovers' bath and massage in the private couple's suite, you will emerge from your treatment starry-eyed.

• The coed relaxation lounge is filled with goodies, including lemon-infused water, apples and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

• Guests get their own private balcony overlooking the peaceful river and tree in which they can indulge in a luxurious alfresco bath and soak up the surroundings.

• The Amazing Grace Massage on the May is a deluxe package that is hard to find anywhere else. Enjoy a 60- or 90-minute massage while cruising down the May River aboard the Hilton Head hotel’s antique 1913 yacht, Grace.
Things to Know
• Although you can make reservations via email, you will not get an immediate response. We recommend calling the spa directly to book your treatments, which also allows you to ask as many questions as you like in real time.

• The treatment packages are the best option for those seeking the ultimate getaway. For the most pampering experience, try the Serene Spa Indulgence that includes six hours of spa services, accommodations for two nights, a dinner at the River House Dining Room or Canoe Club and daily breakfast at Buffalo’s.

• The Spa at Palmetto Bluff is a great place bond with your kids. Young guests will love the "Fountain of Youth" menu, which offers facial and makeup services for guests 11 to 15 years old, and junior manicures and pedicures for those aged 10 and under.

• No matter what time your appointment at The Spa at Palmetto Bluff may be, the cancellation deadline is always 6 p.m., the evening before your treatment.
The Treatments
• Treatments at the intimate hideaway evoke the pleasures of Low country, from the Signature Palmetto High Cotton therapy that combines a massage, hair renewal mask and foot reflexology to the Lemon Aide pedicure that taps into the natural antioxidant properties of the citrus fruit. Pine sea salt, geranium rose and hibicus sugar are just a few of the products used to scrub, wrap and massage you to a state of bliss.

• With six different massages and 17 varieties within those, the hardest part about your time at this Bluffton retreat will be deciding which massage to get. Whether you are looking for a massage in the comfort of your cottage or in the spa's couple's suite, you'll certainly find the perfect fit on this menu.

• There's no better way to soothe your thirsty skin than with a wrap at The Spa at Palmetto Bluff. Our favorite is the Palmetto pluff mud wrap and is perfectly refreshing for normal or oily skin.

• There are several treatments that target men. The gentleman’s facial treats razor burn and sensitive skin, but it also pampers your face with a relaxing massage and deep-cleaning mask.

• The Spa at Palmetto Bluff provides a menu of “Resurrection facials,” named as such because it says the treatments will bring back a healthy glow to your face, much like rain revitalizes a resurrection fern. The signature is the Infusion Facial, a gentle service that accommodates all skin types with a non-acid peel and LED light therapy.
The Facilities
• You’ll walk up a grand staircase from The Spa at Palmetto Bluff's lobby to its indoor/outdoor waiting area. Lounge on a fireside sofa with one of many picture books about the low country’s history and wildlife.

• When the weather is irresistible, take a seat on the outdoor terrace of the spa's extravagant lounge for a view of immaculately manicured lawns and the lagoon.

• The women's locker room is equipped with necessities such as a flat iron, hair dryer, hairbrushes, razors and shower caps. Deodorant, contact lens solution, lotion, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are dispensed from aluminum containers and made with essential oils for a refreshing, soothing and natural application.
