Spa Solage

A Napa oasis with legendary mineral waters
VERIFIED LUXURY
Napa’s northernmost town of Calistoga is steeped in the rich history of its restorative hot springs, whose legends of healing powers date back more than five centuries. In modern times, spas like Spa Solage, inside Solage, An Auberge Resort, offer a sophisticated take on the storied mud baths, with luxurious treatments and breathtaking pools of all kinds for relaxing before and after — all using local water from the acclaimed mineral springs.

After an extensive renovation (part of a recent $2.3 million property-wide makeover), the spa has reopened with 2,500 square feet of new amenities. This includes a 1,409-square-foot indoor/outdoor Relaxation Room that is coed, so couples may enjoy added time together on the plush white furniture before heading to their treatments. Returning guests will also notice an expanded locker room and two new outdoor showers.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The newly renovated Spa Solage reopened in spring 2015 with 56 additional lockers in both locker rooms, and an enhanced welcome and retail area.
  • Updates to the overall Napa spa area include a clean new color palette in shades of white and silver with ultra-plush materials that create a luxe yet informal retreat aesthetic — Calistoga is the most rural of the Napa towns after all.
  • The remodel also added an impressive schedule of fitness and wellness classes. Aqua yoga and mindful awareness meditation quickly became some of the most popular offerings.
  • Set in a relaxation garden that wafts of heavenly rosemary, sage, lavender and mint, the treatment rooms couldn’t be more aptly set up for relaxing into the area’s natural elements. These herbs are incorporated into the spa’s teas and products, neatly bringing it all together.
  • The property’s well pumps pure fresh mineral water into the Calistoga spa’s pools, including the Bathhouse Pool, which hosts a popular floating meditation class in the evenings, when the heated water steams up around the hammocks.
Things to Know
  • The onsite store’s focal point is a stunning photo collage by the apparel line Lole that incorporates photos of the Solage property.
  • Unique fitness offerings include the resort’s “bike and hikes,” which take you on a bicycle ride up the ridges, then has you padlock the bikes and hike the rest of the way up to take in the spectacular views of northern California wine country.
  • The outdoor clothing-optional, female-only spa opens right up to the area’s famously blue skies. Nothing is more calming than a relaxing soak under that view of sky and trees, with the Palisades Mountains rising above.
The Treatments
  • Solage’s restorative spa therapies are a nod to Calistoga’s unique mud bath culture, a sophisticated spin on a centuries-old tradition. The signature Mudslide treatment isn’t to be missed.
  • New personalized services include an anti-aging Instalift Peptide Facial, the hydrating Oxygen Infusion Facial and the toning PhytoFirm Facial performed with the NuFace Trinity device.
  • The program also features seasonal treatments using local ingredients such as honey, wild sage and rose. For example, in the winter, stay warm and cozy with a chocolate mud wrap with ginger oil massage.
The Facilities
  • The spa boutique emphasizes local clothing and jewelry designers, some of whom you won’t find for sale anywhere else, and “conscious” skincare with organic ingredients.
  • The dressing rooms are stunning, made of white marble and now extremely spacious after the renovations, almost doubling in size.
  • The 14 rooms also now feature upgraded spa linens in pale blues, grays and greens. The two couples suites also boast a tub and outdoor lounge.
  • Pools include a eucalyptus steam option that’s kept at 104 degrees and a cool plunge pool.
