The Peninsula Spa Bangkok

Bangkok's serene riverside sanctum
VERIFIED LUXURY
Recessed from all the activity around Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star The Peninsula Bangkok’s 88-meter pool, The Peninsula Spa Bangkok stands alone in a three-story, colonial-style Thai house and offers an extensive menu of Western, Asian and ayurvedic massages, as well as anti-aging facials and other beauty treatments.

Visits to the serene space begin with a reception at the tea lounge, a cup of herbal tea and an initial consultation, followed by a beautiful walk down a wooden corridor to the 14 treatment rooms and four private suites for couples and groups. The traditional Thai décor touches are balanced by contemporary equipment and natural products created by ESPA.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Designed by Henry Leung of Chhada Siembieda Leung Ltd., The Peninsula Spa Bangkok’s low lighting and ample traditional Thai touches create a contemplative atmosphere designed to slow you down.

• The long, leafy path from the reception to the treatment rooms is lined with candles in the evenings, making for an otherworldly experience.

• The hotel spa has collaborated with luxury natural skincare company ESPA to create its own range of products called Simply Peninsula. Among the offerings, you’ll find salt scrubs, exfoliating body polishes, a variety of body oils, masks and scrubs.

• One product to check out is the Nourishing Body Oil, which uses vitamin E-rich calendula extracts along with jojoba and almond oils to reduce stretch marks and uneven skin tone.

• The Bangkok spa’s body masks and wraps blend herbal concentrates with Oshadi clay, pink mud or marine algae, and its Ayurvedic oils are matched to the personality and constitution of each client.

The Treatments
• The program of body and foot massages at the luxurious spa covers several wellness traditions, including Thai, Balinese and Swedish.

• A small selection of ayurvedic treatments includes chakra balancing with volcanic stones and the padabhyanga, a foot and lower leg massage using traditional oils.

• There is also an emphasis on facials that tone, lift, detoxify and brighten the skin.

• Even pregnant and nursing mothers will find massages, anti-cellulite treatments and lymphatic drain massages tailored to their needs.

• The spa’s team of therapists and masseurs come already qualified and receive a further 10-week training on the rejuvenating spa's products and treatments.
The Rooms
• Treatment rooms are appointed with exposed brick, raw local silks and aged wood handicrafts, though most treatments are performed on automated massage tables specially designed by Clodagh Gemini.

• A sequence of lighting schemes also leads you through pre-treatment preparations, the massage and the post-treatment shower, making the whole experience a careful ritual.

• The Peninsula Spa Bangkok has two suites for two facing the river and two private suites tucked in the back, all equipped with rain showers, twin treatment tables and double hydrotherapy baths — perfect for couples regardless of their individual choices of treatment.
