Our Inspector's Highlights
• The spa's locker room’s vanity provides hair products, styling tools, lotion and shower essentials — shampoo, conditioner, body wash — which means you can show up empty-handed and leave well-groomed.

• Nail services are done in a private room with big, plush European Touch brand massage-pedicure chairs and a manicure table.

• Both Chuan Spa-branded products and those from French company Thalgo are used at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa.

• On the lower level of the Shanghai spa, the retail shop sells products used during treatments. In addition to eye creams, moisturizers, toners, sprays and the like, the boutuque also sells New Age music CDs, eye masks, antique-style Chinese candle burners, scarves and earrings and necklaces, mostly of the pearl variety.

• You’re never far from refreshments at this glamourous spa, beginning with the endless supply of bottled water that can be found in nearly every room. Grab a green apple off the pile at the front desk, or the staff may gift you with a small plate of sliced oranges and flavorful tea as you stretch out in one of the relaxation lounges.
Things to Know
• Chuan Spa is located in The Langham, Xintiandi, Shanghai, and hotel guests are welcome to come down to the spa in the robe and slippers that are provided in each guestroom.

• Before your treatment begins, it is recommended that you do the Chuan tri-bating ritual of a visit to the sauna or steam room followed by a cool shower and then a dip in the Jacuzzi. The hot-to-cold regimen is supposed to awaken the body and help balance your energies, which is the ideal way to prepare for a day of services.

• Kids need to be at least 16 years old to expierence the alluring spa.

• In room treatments are not offered. To get the most out of your luxury spa experience, it’s well worth visiting Chuan Spa in person.
The Treatments
• Ho Guan is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves a heated cup being placed on various acupressure points of the body that are affected by pain. A therapist will apply the heat to achieve a therapeutic effect on skin and muscles.

• During the Chuan harmony massage, a special oil will be chosen for you and a mix of acupressure and relaxation massage techniques combine to create an overall experience of well-being and recovery.

• Chuan feet retreat repairs through a soak, oil-and-salt exfoliation, specialized foot mask and relief applied to specific pressure points to get you back on your feet.

• Another popular treatment is the Chuan muddy elements. After a warm oil-and-salt exfoliation, you’ll be coated in five signature muds and wrapped to ensure total infusion.

• The cold marine facial is the perfect option for those with sensitive skin. A cool mint mask is used to reduce redness and tension, as well as more supple skin.
The Facilities
• After checking in, you’ll be led to the locker room, where you’ll get your own large wood locker packed with fluffy tan towels, a shower cap, a coppery-beige bathrobe, plush white slippers and pink spa sandals.

• Slip down to the B2 level for a rest in the dimly lit Dream Room, where six reclined loungers set you up to enjoy tea, soft music and a soothing atmosphere.

• The spa shares space with the hotel’s gym and pool, so you can crawl your way up and down the 25-meter (82-foot) lap pool, take a dip in the Jacuzzi or sweat it out in the sauna or steam room before or after your treatment.

• If you’re getting treatments and staying in the double-size or deluxe rooms, you’ll also have access to showers and private soaking tubs.
